Windows XP Home Edition Issues

If anyone has any hands on experience of these pieces of shit, especially of preinstalled HP rigs, I'd appreciate some help. Nothing I can't ultimately handle on my own, but it's just going to be more annoying that way.

Anyway, the story is that I set one of those up for my parents yesterday evening, and already it's acting up. Just one issue, but a fucking annoying one. Apparently the only user on that computer that is able to access any web pages that use encryption is the built in admin account. And it refuses to connect to normal pop3 mail servers as well. All the problems go away if you use the admin account, but the limited user is fucked. Is this some function of the way the XP Home Edition is set up from the beginning and connected to the user privileges, or some other sort of issue?

If it's something else, would the preinstalled Norton software be a likely culprit?

I'm fortunately not in a hurry with this, but any help and info that will reduce the time it will take to fix it would be most welcome.

My sister's HP laptop had similar problems. I couldn't figure out why they were happening, removed Norton and replaced it with AVG just to see what would happen, and all of a sudden she got her internet connection back.

It's worth a try.

Thanks! I figured it would be that, but it's nice to have confirmation. Goddamn piece of shit Symantec crapware... Well, the protection it provides would only be valid for two months before began to require monthly subscription fees for updatesanyway, so it's getting the axe the next time I go over there.

I owe you one for this, it's going to drastically cut down the list of things to try and save me a lot of time. The one resource I'm rather short of at the moment. :)
