I wonder where this came from. Even Pokemon and Ninja Turtle "evolution" don't turn dead things into living.
Brian
Well, there's one evolution I can think of that turns a living Pokemon into an undead...that ninja cicada thing...
Heretic! I recognize Squirtle, Charzard, Bulbasaur and the original 150 as the only pokemen around, none of that crystal bullshit!
Besides they didn't get it from that. Arguing against a strawman is stupid. I'm beginning to think the best way to start a debate with a creationist is to ask them first, "what do you think evolution is?"

What about Gold/Silver?

Not quite... What happens is that the Pokemon's evolution is it shedding it's skin like a Cicada does, and if you have an open slot on your team(only have 5 Pokemon with you), the empty husk becomes a kind of undead Pokemon.
Although some Pokemon are kinda grusome when you think about it, like Cubone, which wears the skull of it's mother.

Not as big a heresy. I liked some of the new pokemon in G/S; Lugia remains one of my all-time favorites.

There were certainly problems with Ruby/Sapphire, but surely you can't mean that for Fire Red/Leaf Green and Emerald? Ranger and Mysterious Dungeon are looking pretty damn good too.

Feeling like a nerd here, I'll be the first one to actually give Shedinja's name.
That being said, Ruby/Sapphire improved a bunch of old pokemon in addition to the new ones, and it made the metagame servicable compared to the Snorlax-and-Slowbro-centric RBY engine. Admittedly, the metagame now isn't perfect, and Snorlax (although Slowbro has faded into obscurity,) is still all too plentiful, but at least we have counters now, like Dunsparce.

Dunsparce has become an effective counter for Snorlaks? Are we thinking of the same pokemon?
How?!

See, I could never get the people who played the game professionally. I got up to the point where if I wanted to get any better I'd have to start taking real strageys and numbers into account and then I was like "wait..." I don't really give a fuck.

How?!
As of Ruby/Sapphire it has the ability Serene Grace, which doubles the accuracy of the secondary effects of moves. If the Dunsparce uses Thunder Wave, Attract, and then keeps using Headubtt, the Snorlax would have a 10% chance of moving. It's a bit of a crapshot, but he's the only one I could think of off the top of my head.
EDIT: That, and it's always hysterically funny when people start screaming "wtfhax."

It's not really a "professional" thing. You just sort of pick up more tricks when you play the game online, since it's a much more difficult environment to stay on top in.

As the webmaster of Bulbagarden.net, I think I outnerd you there. ;p SAMAS probably would too, seeing as he used to be pretty huge in shipping circles. Man, that brings back memories...
I never got into Netbattle myself, despite actually being in fairly regular contact with some of the creators at various points. Partially because of the seeming stagnation in the metagame (There's not many ways one can really build a competitive team without using the OU's), and partially because it won't even work properly on Windows XP with Unicode set to Japanese, even with AppLocale. ;_; It'll be interesting to see what the metagame is like on Nintendo DS WiFi with Diamond and Pearl.
Now, the TCG however....the metagame changes there in the past few months have been huge. Not to mention the huge shock victory of a Monarchy deck at worlds over the hugely popular T2 Medicham. Does make me wonder if SMP will have the same fate this tournament season.

I'm guessing these guys use MIRC, or maybe some sort of web-based interface... I've seen both before.
My brother used to be hot into this stuff. Played Pokemon competitively for a few years. Online, then went to those Nintendo Bus tours lol.

The IRC based GSBot and RSBot aren't really used nowdays. In fact, I'm not even sure they're running anymore. Most of it's done via the Netbattle program, which you can google.

Hey, there are plenty of non-OU Pokemon that are still good. Looking at bluehat's list of UU 'mon, I see some definite winners: Absol, Clefable, Dunsparce, Nidoking, Ninetales, Tentacruel....
It's all in how you use 'em really.

Well since this has turned into a serious discussion of Pokemon... I guess I have to say honestly, I don't really have anything against Pokemon past blue/red/gold/silver, because I have no idea where Pokemon went after that. I never got into max stats, strategy, or anything like that, but it was fun watching my brother getting excited over it. My idea of a Pokemon "team" was beedrill, raichu, taurus (sp), raticate, the one that looked like a plant, and the ice one that can evolve into two or three different other types, and of course charzard. When I mentioned these Pokemon to my brother, he laughed his ass off lol. Hey, I was only 14 or 15 at the time lol. My idea of strategy was to keep one Pokemon of each type around, and it worked for single player. I would just match up the type, and the other Pokemon died.
But then my brother sold his blue cartridge and I forgot about Pokemon.
<edit>I would have gotten into Pokemon much earlier... but I picked charmander in the beginning rather than bulbasaur or squirtle. The first trainer was normal (or was it rock) and it was so fucking hard I couldn't beat it. I was small, so I wasn't really into spending hours levelling up my charmander in the wild, so I left the game in disgust. That's when my brother picked it up. If not for that "traumatic" experience with Pokemon (hey when you're a kid things like this are devestating lol), I might be as big Pokemon freaks as you guys, it seems to be just the kind of thing with enough strategy to hold my interest
. When I got back to Pokemon many years later, I was way older, and the bandwagon had passed. I beat blue, and that was it. I wonder what my brother's face would be like if I got into Pokemon and told him a few weeks later, rattled off the names of a couple hundred Pokemon, and showed him a competitive team lol, it would freak him out. Plus... I wonder if girls would be turned on by Pokemon LOL.</edit>

My team in the old day was:
Dragonite, Charizard, Alakazam/Mewtwo, The dragon fish that evolved from the useless fish thing, Zapdos and another I can't remmemeber, a fighting type I think.
In G/S I had a better balanced team but for the life of me I can't remmemeber it

That would be Dragonite, Charizard, Mewtwo, Gyarados, Zapdos, and Hitmonchan, no? In any case, I fell out partway through Silver, though I'd like to go back and play through Silver, and then Leaf Green or Fire Red. Someday.

Since before you, according to our join dates. :p I remember being here when you got your ass handed to you by Wong. A pity the shipping debates were over by then, we could have all used the lessons in debating.

I suppose...but I've never really seen anyone use them that way, unfortunatly. Too few people seem to be willing to take risks and try them.

You'd be surprised. There's huge numbers of girls in the fandom. They seem to have a lot more staying power than the guys actually, given that they tend to florish more within the fanfic and fanart communities. A good percentage of them are mature non-fangirls too.

Every single girl I have ever dueled in pokemon used a Sandslash. Granted, this was way back when it was just red and blue, but still, it freaked me out.
