Okay, I have these cheapass POS 'phones (that came from Godknowswhere) on my Athlon ship, and the good Sony (No DRM here!) MDR-V150s on the old Celery.

My problem is this:
  • 1> Treble is boosted WAYYYYY TOO HIGH. Anyone who's ever shot a Klesk in Quake 3 (or worse, played as one) knows how painful the poor thing's pitiful screams for mercy can sound as is; imagine it with treble at least twice as loud as bass, even after factoring in appropriate bass/treble adjustments! Ouch.
2>MP3s POP POP POP! WAAAAUUUUGGHHHH!!! No, it's not the files themselves, it's definitely something with the audio equipment.
3> I have the headphones patched through a Logitech 2.1 speaker system; not really bad per se, but useful info in tracing the problem so I know whether or not getting new heads is a TWoT.
4> These dumb things have that stupid 'behind-the-head' loop that fucks with my ponytail. I prefer over-the-tops myself anyway...
5> They're extremely obviously cheaply-made. Who knows when they just plum stop working (most likely right in the middle of Quake knowing my luck)
6> I don't want to piss Conrad the Drunk Shawnee Indian off by swapping out the phones; that would be lame.
7> Does anyone know if Sony makes the MDR-V150s with a microphone? I want to be able to use Teamspeak when I get to my Serious Fragging on Quake 4...
Anyways, that's about it. :)

Sennheiser HD 201 headphones. For 20 bucks plus shipping they are scarily good. I heard them at a recent headphone meet and could not believe that these were $20 headphones. They'll definitely take care of the harsh treble issue and give you good music playback. They are really as good as the site says they are. You will have to find a separate mic to use with them though.
