Me and my new Logitech MX5000

I just bought an MX5000 this afternoon, and I love it. It's the greatest thing since, well, the mouse and keyboard.
For those of you who don't know, the MX5000is Logitechs newest cordless desktop mouse and keyboard combo.

First, a few qualms about the combo:
1: Installation. Installation of the hardware was a snap, but on the software side... If you're running a firewall and the newest version of Spybot S&D, expect to spend at least half an hour installing software that should only take five minutes to install. The window in one of the last stages of installation forces itself to the front, meaning if you have to authorize internet access or a registry change (in the case of S&D), something has to move.
2: General use. There may be a significant delay between typing and the display of text on screen (by significant, I mean about a second, which is often more than enough to throw someone off if they are semi touch-type). This can be expected from any wireless keyboard, so I'll just have to learn to live with it.

Don't get me wrong, I think this mouse and keyboard are the greatest things (as I have said before, and to a number of friends and relatives). They are both leaps and bounds ahead of my OEM POS's that I was using before (my original mouse is actually a logitech, just rebranded, but it is corded, not laser, and only has 2 buttons and a wheel). The key weight is near perfect, the media buttons are awesome, and I can be more than 3 feet from my monitor to use it. Despite my displeasure with the aforementioned, I would still highly reconmend this to anyone in the market for a wireless mouse and keyboard, if you can afford the CAN$200 price tag. (That's what I paid at Staples, plus tax. Future Shop has them listed for $230, so shop araound.)

Picked up a Logitech G5 laser mouse myself. I rather like it and the MX518 mouse I have.

The delay sucks balls for gaming. My wireless internet is enough to convince me that wireless is not the way to go for gaming. Milliseconds matter in games, don't even think of a second delay. I bought a cheap keyboard for my brother to play DDR, and he was thrown off by a small delay. This keyboard was corded too so you can buy corded keyboards that blow, but Logitech is the top of the game and if their cordless keyboards have lag others will as well.

That sucks donkey nuts. Corded for life.

Ahh, Logitech cordlessware...

Mine is already about 5-6 years old (one of the first keyboard&mouse combos that logitech made) and it's still working perfectly (apart from the mouse's 3rd button, which stopped working about 2-3 years ago).

I love Logitech, most of my peripherials (joystick is a Logitech Wingman Force and a Momo Racing Wheel) is made by them and I've never had any problems.

I absolutely love my corded MX518. Gotta love on the fly adjustable sensitivity. I couldn't play BF2 without it.

By the way, I don't experience ANY lag at all with my keyboard. I had a corded one before it (that was long time ago in a galaxy...) and I didnt notice any change when I switched to cordless

I switched from corded to a Logitech MX700 combo, and I noticed no delay whatsoever in the keyboard or mouse.

The delay really isn't that bad, but if you're arrowing through text or deleting a lot of text, then it can get a little annoying. I played a little Diable 2x this afternnon, and didn't really cause a problem, but I'll have to play a FPS with it before I decide whether or not I'll use my corded for gaming or not.

Try moving the wireless point. You shouldn't be getting any lag time from your keyboard.

I just ordered an MX1000, which is supposedly 20x faster than regular optical and it's wireless.

Due to the way my computer is set up, it's very difficult to move the bluetooth reciever.
Also, the MX1000 is the mouse in the combo. It's sweet.

When I was gaming with a shitty MS wireless mouse, I didn't notice any lag at all, even in UT or other games. Then again, I had the reciever level with my mouse and only about 6 inches away

The mouse isn't the problem. I'm not getting any lag at all from the mouse.

I also discovered another slight problem. Sometimes multiple characters will be displayed when a key was only tapped.

you're getting some interference somewhere. reciever should be six inches from any electromagnetic source IIRC

I'll try rearranging it this evening, but as I have said before, it won't be easy. I might end up moving my printer closer to my tower and swapping its USB cable with the one for my hub (which is what the reciever is plugged into).
