Does anyone know of a free, preferably good (and, obviously, legal) WinXP-Win media player compatible DVD decoder download site?

Media Player Classic doesn't require decoder, IIRC. If you're wanting something that'll let you play with WMP, though, afraid I can't help as most will require payment to download...

If you live in the United States, (legally) you must purchase a commercial DVD player program so that various licensing fees are paid.

As far as I can tell, this is totally legal.

(edit) Oops. They took it down recently for being... illegal. Nevermind.

I don't know how anybody out there can fail to have a copy of PowerDVD these days. Every time I buy a videocard, it comes with a free legal copy.

Unfortunately, mine did not. That's what I get for digging up the "best" deal on the damn thing. Naturally, I assumed that PowerDVD would be included, but apparently that was a mistake...
