What would your ideal FPS weapon be?
Any weapon at all, from a generic rifle to a rifle that turns its target into an inflatable giraffe. We've all heard of weapons like the shrink ray and the gravity gun: the weapons that push a game's multiplayer into the truly extraordinary. What would your game-making weapon be?

Well instead of being a little whore, I'm going to say a weapon with similar functionality as the OICW, powerful rifle with basically a cannon, depending on the universe I'm playing in, it would be useful against armored targets, or groups of weaker targets, flushing out enemies in fortifications or entrenchments, etc.
I like the verstaility that something like a 20mm cannon gives, even if the ammo is somewhat limited.

I would like to see the gravity gun taken to the next logical step (or maybe this idea is a few steps beyong logic, but whatever): the singularity cannon. It would be some sort of gigantic fucking gun that launches a microscopic black hole at the target. Now, even though I know that black holes don't actually work this way in real life, for the context of a FPS, here's what I'd want it to do: when you fire it the local area distorts as everything is pulled toward the singularity gravity gun style. If it hits another player it sucks them up for a one shot kill, but it has a very short range and it curves down quite quickly. After a certain amount of time the black hole decays and detonates in a spectacular explosion. However, because of the short range and the pulling effect the person who fired the damn thing in the first place is usually pulled into the moderate damage zone making it almost more dangerous to shoot than to be shot with. This will encourage people to either learn to use it properly or not use it all. If this weapon were ever made, it would probably work best with some sort of system that allows you to blow apart the terrain.
I love learning. Teach me. I will listen.

A lightsaber + Kyle Katarn.
Jedi Knight series games are considered FPS after all.
Barring that the idea of a teleporter gun seems interesting. If it hits the enemy he is teleported to a random location on the map. It could be a safe area or he might materialize inside wall or fall into the infamous bottomless pit (TM).

Double lightsaber , or a saber staff (Double) in one hand, and aanother saber in the other hand .
That or a energy ray/beam gun, (The insta gib gun in UT 2004, without the instant death) always was my favourite weapon. (Followed by flak)

What I have always imagined would be some futuristic sort of shooter, with a well done beam weapon. What I'm imagining is something like the portable ion cannon from C&C: Renegade, but not nerfed. Make it so that it shoots out a beam that instantly vaporizes any infantry that you sweep it across. To keep it from being too abused, it has a recharge system where it only can fire for a limited time, then it must recharge. Ideally you would get this weapon fairly early in the game. Of course, then, the challenge becomes introducing enemy types that this wouldn't be effective on. Actually, I got this idea while watching "War of the Worlds" and thinking about how cool it would be to have a portable version of the Martian Insta-Dust-O-Ray of Doom!

Ideally, I'd see an FPS where one of the weapons had the following functions:
Main fire: Medium-powered machine gun, good control, insta-hit, no tracers, flash suppressed, noise suppressed.
Alt-Fire: Friend-or-Foe mini auto-turret launcher (ala Perfect Dark's briefcase gun), that, when it runs out of ammo, becomes a Friend-or-Foe proximity mine that blasts with an energy pulse that you're immune to for whatever technobabble reason.
Melee button: Club the motherfucker over the head.
There you go; Melee weapon, defense, offense, low chance of being spotted using it unless you're a moron or unlucky. Oh, hell with it, mix the Perfect Dark briefcase gun with the Dragon and give it a melee function and the ability to shoot the mine/turret rather than be same. And suppress the fucker. I hate it when I have to be stealthy and they give me the NoiseBlaster 2000 as a weapon.

The human pistol from Halo 1 would do me just fine. Oh yes...
However, I do like Lagmonster's idea. I'm not keen on silent weapons however, I like something with a little oomph. Also, I find the auditory feedback when shooting people to be quiet important for some reason. If it made a beep only I could hear when hitting a target that'd be nice.
A motion tracker / radar would be useful too. Zoom feature too.

I like the idea of the DMG-ish weapon, but have a minor revision.
A weapon that is able to set up gravity sinks/repulsions in certian areas, which you could use to make a sort of "conveyor belt system" with if given enough time. Imagine it, you fail to notice a sort of distortion in the floor and suddenly are being sucked in a completely new direction... then are shunted into a new field, then another, then another, and suddenly bam, into the lava.
Though a weapon like this would be better in a TFC type enviroment than a standard DM type one. After all, base defense is what some people who played TFC lived for.
