This is definatly a fun little program, and much more friendly than the online version, it has better zoom and clarity as you come up close, and I don't know if it's the time or day or something, but the picture just looks a hell of a lot better. It gives you elevation, grid coordinates, it's just a really neat, free, toy.

Oh you'll want a link...

Google Giveth

I really hope this isn't old news...

Is it actually fully standalone downloadable now, or do you still need to have broadband to make it work?

You still need broadband: http://earth.google.com/faq.html#5

My favourite feature of Google Earth are the sightseeing placemarks they include. The Grand Canyon is amazingly detailed and you can change the viewing angle, I was in awe the first time I saw it.

There are a load of inaccuracies still, mainly with heights and post codes/location markers. I also want the metric units as standard and not to be given US cities when I type in the original city names from the UK. No, the Birmingham in Bumfuck, USA is not what I want.

They didn't have Newcastle in high enough resolution to be any use to me. Was hoping for something close to streetmap quality for a university project, but in the end, just scanned in my A-Z pages.
