Problems with VLC

Okay, I've got a show that I'm trying to watch in VLC. Annoyingly my comp crashed halfway through, so I try firing up VLC again to finish watching it, picking up where I left off.

But, here's the kicker. The damned navigation bar at the bottom that lets you scroll through different parts has vanished. It only seems to do it with this particular format too, as any other video file I try it with is fine. Is there any way of getting the navigation bar to reappear for the video in question, or am I pretty much fucked?

VLC? Better to just keep the codec pack and use Media Player Classic.

That's what I did.

My machine won't run Media Player Classic. Suggesting another player does not address my current problem.

It's running Windows 98SE. I'd upgrade, but sadly I can't afford a better Operating System at present.
