Sorry if this has been posted before.

Can BF2 be played off line, like BF 1942, or is it only a online game?

Running through the central FAQ there on Gamefaqs, it seems as though there is one, but it's really there in spirit only - there's no campaign like in the original, no objectives, just the absolute basics.

If by played offline you mean:

Take part in a sub-standard game against fucking retarded bots who don't even know the rules of the fucking game and are worse to play with than a server full of wall-hacking masturbating fan-boys... Then yes, you can.

BF2 on the Xbox does have a campaign though. I guess that's for the people who don't want to pay for Live.

Yes, you can play offline, but only certain maps, and then only the small versions of the maps. The default is 16 bots, but tweaking one of the AI files will let you do 32 or 64 (if your system can handle it).

The bots are better than 1942's. They will attack flags, and when they're down to one flag left, put up one hell of a fight. However, the bots always know where you're at, and if you're on a roof or playing as a sniper, they will come after you (and being on a roof is about the only thing I've seen trigger the enemy's artillery).

Also, if you have some friends on a LAN, you can fire up a single player game, and have them use the "Connect to IP" option in the Join Internet menu to join you're game. A couple of coworkers and myself do this often, and we have a blast mowing down bots.

There are mods to let you play the big versions of the maps with all the toys.

The only one of those I've found to be stable is the WCC mod, but it doesn't change the number of flags. I've tried a couple of others, but they CTD after a few minutes. And as far as I know, WCC hasn't been updated to support the latest patch.

Which single player/coop mods do you like?

The reason I’m asking is because I don't have high speed (living in the middle of nowhere has its disadvantages) and I have found its pointless to play online games with dial-up.
I liked the BF 1942 and BF Vietnam offline game play (though stupid it may sound I found it interesting) and was just wondering if BF2 had the same offline qualities.
Also how do the vehicles handle on the PC version?
I would rather ask the people on this board then somebody trying to sell me it, and they might or might not know anything about it

Don’t buy BF2 if you can’t play online. The AI for single player is moderately intelligent, and a very good but not godlike shot, but it the experience fighting it is not worth the price. You don’t get to enjoy many aspects of game play simply because you can’t cooperate with other players and your commander.

Well they drive like vehicles and have decent speed, but all of them are underpowered as shit. If you stop a vehicle on a slope, it’s just slow as hell to get it moving again.
