Worst missions/objectives in gaming.

Escort the dickhead gets my vote. Why is it that I'm also put in charge of keeping a blind, deaf and fucking stupid VIP alive. Especially one who seems so hell-bent on commiting suicide. I can't fucking stand it.
The next worst in my book is any variation on the boss fight when it just doesn't make sense. For example, a boss fight in "Doom" - all well and good. Then you have one of the mafia bosses in "The Punisher" who laughs maniacally as you shoot him in the face 500 fucking times, I don't mind having to fuck around while killing the Russian or taking down a power-armoured Jigsaw, but when I have a mafiosi in a bar that I'm laying waste to, I want him to die as easily as every other punk in the bar. Same with "Hitman" and the fucking coke baron. If you are going to make a realistic game - keep it fucking realistic.

RPGs where you get confronted by an enemy who you could realistically defeat stats wise, but then get defeated and have your ass handed to you with some cheap deus ex machinae in order to further the plot. As much as I love RPGs, this type of plot device always annoys the fuck out of me.

Yes. Boss fights should either have someone that's hard to draw a decent bead on, or someone sporting some fancy armor. I hate it when realistic games make someone able to soak up 20 shotgun blasts to the face and call him a boss.

The RC vehicle missions from GTA San Andreas. I wanted to spill David Cross' blood afterwards.

The ones in Vice City elicited a few choice curse words from me as well. At least the ones in San Andreas are optional. The most aggravating one I've ever experienced in all the GTAs is when you have to race that guy in Vice City to get him to join your team. Or how about the mandatory flight school in San Andreas?
The purge of the Jedi Temple in
Star Wars Battlefront 2 had me spewing obscenities as well.

Yeah, I second the RPG boss vote. I level pushed in Skies of Arcadia and by the time I got to the fight that you are supposed to lose plot-wise, i was powerful enough to hold off the enemy indeffinately. Like seriously, I spent and hour just shaking off his attacks and slamming his head repeatedly into the ground before I finaly got fed up with it, and started attacking my own charecters so they would die faster. The icing on the cake after that fight is always the cut-scene where your charecters lie around talking about how hard they just got handed while the bad-guy you just flattened gloats.

Tartarus from Halo 2. I would put him under the wanked boss with deus ex machina category. His one-hit-kill hammer was a pain in the ass for me.

I don't know if it can be counted as a mission/objective, per se, but I always dislike it when the "training" for RPGs or something have a character teaching you and they throw out things like "Use the 'X' button to do this!" or some shit like that. It breaks SoD too much for my tastes.
I don't recall the specifics, but there was a mission in one of the Dot Hack games, the second, I believe, where you had to go solo. That normally wouldn't be a problem for me in an RPG, except that the main character is not a tank. And most of the enemies for this solo mission are über-melee beasts, so, I have to waste most of my money on heal scrolls so my ass doesn't die. That sucked a great deal.
In KOTOR, I didn't like the Calo Nord fight. I don't know if it was because I hadn't done enough leveling, if my computer is just not powerful enough to play it properly (it laaaggs), or some other variable. At anyrate, I only won it with Candoris and the Murderbot assisting me. Even then, I think only one or two of us came out alive.
There's also the first confrontation with Darth Malek that I haven't finished yet. He freezes Bastila and Fucktard McRetardedson IV (also known as Carth) so I have to fight him on my own, and with my lag, it just ends up with me dying as he rips me a new one. I have a feeling that I'm not quite powerful enough to be fighting him, either, as my force powers only do minimal damage to him and my duel lightsabers aren't doing that much damage.

Damn straight. I remember Goldeneye was especially bad for this, although that was more a problem with having to spend five minutes running through the level to find the idiot VIP who is cowering in a corner even though every single last enemy is dead.
Any mission involving Arthas in WCIII should also get a vote because he's such a complete dumbshit. Any game where you want your side to loose has something seriously wrong with it.

What. Playing the bad guys is refreshing sometimes, I don't want bad guys to win in the end but playing them is fun. Also I don't remember any escort Arthas mission, I always got to control Arthas.
Although, particularly annoying was the "defend the base for 30 minutes" with Arthas and Kel'Thazuad in the summoning circle. You know how I beat it? I fought to the last fucking bloody man, on hard mode. I kept every single one of the hellhounds alive and built shitloads of abominations, then kept the abominations blocking the ramp and it was literally down to the last 10 seconds and 2 more hits and the NPC was dead. Argh, but honestly it was fun because I had to use strategy, keep all my guys alive through the waves and block the ramps so the enemy knights could only kill one abomination at a time. Took me 10 tries but I beat it and I was so happy after because it was all because of micromanagement and tactics, but I can understand why some people find this annoying.

The Factory Conveyor-Belt of Hell in Quake 4. Gegh, what a fucking demented obstacle-course run. Then there's the Stroyg Slave fucker that you have to sneak past (I figured that out while looking for a walkthrough; I've yet to get to that part...)
At least the 'escort guy A from point X to point Y' parts aren't bad: They have effective weapons, duck and dodge enemy fire competently, and put up a decent fight...

Stock Break! Ha! Now all your party members have 1HP! The fight is over! Unless... you
heal or something.
My vote also goes to "escort the putz" with "escape from base/temple/ship before it explodes/collapses/sinks" coming in a very close second.

Bah, not all escapes are bad. The final escape run in Halo was always fun, albeit something of a realism breaker; with its crazy stunt track design

Fuck realism! I got to drive real fast and blow shit up! Even better with a friend in the back seat.

fixt.
It's still wicked awesome fun though.
What I also hate is having to go around and collect a bunch of items for your quest. Or when games move the goalposts on you.

Escorts are also my number one hatred. Nothing gets me more then escorting some pig of a thing(being fighter/person/floaty thing) from the enemy to which the enemy is so fucking suicidal they ignore me killing them in some twisted effort to kill the enemy.
It breaks all sorts of suspension when for 90% of the game, then enemy engages you, but for some measly escort they are worse then crack whores looking for their next fix.
Scripted Boss encounters is a distant second because while it break the flow of the game, it's usually some pointless story effort to make you fear the cheesehead for a few more second then you normally would.

1) Boss fights in FPSs. It seems like more often than not it's just out of nowhere. Suddenly after one-hit-killing hordes of enemies, you run into the single guy who can take absurd amounts of damage. Even when it's not hard, it's a really frustrating break in the gameplay. Or in general, any time a semi-realistic game decides to increase the difficulty by giving the enemies 10x the HP as a substitute for better game design. Yes, I'm looking at you FarCry, going from incredibly fun to "yay I can take multiple .50cal sniper rounds through the eye and kill you in one hit!" enemies everywhere.
2) The random stealth mission in FPSs. No, it's not fun quicksave/loading your way through a near-impossible maze of instant-loss traps.
3) Any rpg quest that's better suited to the mailman than an epic hero. Honestly, what's the point? Does anyone really enjoy these "take object X to person Y and get 1gp" quests? Anyone, even a single person?

1) Escorting when the escortee can't fight or defend themselves (I didn't mind the Quake 4 missions for example).
2) Those horrible, horrible stealth missions in any game or genre (Fable, I'm looking at you
, and you too Jedi knight).
3) I like Boss fights as long as it's relatively interesting (Unique attacks, interesting design) and not a survive for x minutes type drag or "You lose" plot device.
4) I despise survive for x minutes missions, especially when I can destroy a large amount of enemy forces in Strategy games.
5) Level grinding- kill 17 red claws to get a rock- The main reason I only played WoW for about a month.

What I hate is the seemingly unending stream of enemies in an FPS.
Now, I don't have a problem with there being thirty people in a room that I need to kill, or even a building full of a hundred people that, once alerted to my presence, start coming after me. I don't even have a problem with enemies teleporting in... once.
What I have a problem with is where the level will restrict you to a given area, and then just throw wave after wave of enemies after you for five minutes. Star Trek: Elite Force was the worst offender I've seen.

I fucking hate those "defend base for x time" missions, as I always win in by luck. RTS really need stupid enemies that don't have perfect resource gathering and use (nevermind better then perfect).

the "starwars/firefox effect" in flight simulators....
please make the huring stop, I don't want anymore fly flow and fast missions, I want to fucking blow somoeone out of the sky, leave the "Trench run" for the a-10 simulators, or for one actual mission in X-wing.
sorry I'm so sick of the trench run that I would like to hop into a tie defender and harrass that YT series frieghter while lord vader can deal with the trench run fodder.

1. The invincible opponent/ally
2. Player actions have no effect on the campaign. e.g. I destroyed the USS Enterprise 2 missions ago and it apears again in the current mission.

Another vote for escort the fucktard.
Also, I dispise "Protection-"type stuff too. You know, the "Man the turret of the Millenium Falcon! Don't let too much damage happen!"
