RTW/DirectX Tech Prob. "No DirectX" Despite Instal

Two days ago, I sat down and played a nice game of Rome: Total War. (Vanilla, no expansion, Patch 1.2).
Today, I looked over my conquests but had to go leave for some community service work.

As of an hour ago, Rome Total War is being an ass.

Whenever I start Rome: Total War, it pauses, and says "There is no DirectX on your computer, and it's required."

So I reinstall DirectX 9.0c from Microsoft's website.

Rome: Total War says "There is no DirectX on your computer, and it's required. Pwnt."

With a mighty battlecry of "HAX!" I use the Rome:Total War demoshield thing and click "Extras" and then "DirectX" and it installs itself again, straight from the goddamn game itself.

Rome: Total War says "There is no DirectX in Baghdad! It is all Microsoft Lies! Lies, Lies, Lies!"

Anyone have any clue what the hell is wrong here? Uninstall RTW and reinstall it to try to get it to detect DirectX9?

(No OS Reinstalls or C:// Format solutions, please.)

Do your other DX games work? If so, try reinstalling RTW.

"Rome: Total War failed to find DirectX 9, which is required for the game to run. Please reinstall DirectX"

The installation even had an "Install DirectX9?" part. All other games as far as I can tell run correctly.

Weirdly, ever since my first test install of DirectX 9.0c (first try to fix it), all DirectX installs have proceded instantly. I click "Install" and it instantly becomes the "Finish" screen before (as far as I can tell) actually doing anything.

Try downloading it straight from Microsoft (a few MB, IIRC)

I don't know how this would help, but computers are strange beings.

Beat you to it 90 minutes ago. That was my first attempt, if you read the post.

Did you try uninstalling DirectX before reinstalling?

Deleted the folders that installed the 9.0c and later attempts, but as far as I can tell there's no way to clear DirectX 9.0 from your system save either a System Restore to a time before it was installed or a complete OS Reinstall.

Start -> Run -> dxdiag

And then wouldn't you know the day afterwards it randomly starts detecting DX9 for no apparant reason and is generally agreeable. That always happens just as soon as I ask for help...

Problem solved [by the whims of my Computer?]. Thread can be ignored or locked or whatever.
