New FPS?

I'm bored and need a new game. When is Hellgate London coming out? Will Halo 2 ever be available for PC? Is there a Postal 3 in the works? Besides all the obvious, can anyone suggest a game I might have missed?
You know what I miss? Jump puzzles! Quake, Unreal, Doom 2 - even Halflife had some. Crap! Showing my age...

If you do not have it get FarCry, best FPS of them all!

You have, Call of Duty 2. Pretty but a system killer for the Xbox360 and the PC
You have Quake IV. Good old Quake II style action with graphic and a few nice play updates. Squad AI is lacking however. It's a good game, not an outstanding one.
You do of course have Farcry and the pretty Crytek engine. Also worth mentioning are Battlefield 2 and Battlefront 2 both good solid FPS but each with it's own problems(Battlefront for example does not do Ship to Ship space combat half as well as Galatic Battlegrounds did the BF1942 mod.)

Have you played F.E.A.R yet?
It's by far the best FPS I've played since the days of Half Life.

Get FEAR, play it with lights off, alone in the dark at midnight it's quite a fun experience

Probably not.
Someone at Microsoft has to know that Xbox fanatics love to lord over their PC buddies with "haha we have Halo and you guys don't, suck it down", and after the Halo 1 fiasco (really shoddily coded port) I can't imagine they're at all enthusiastic about doing another port.
Day of Defeat Source is out now, and I've heard it's very good.

Day of Defeat source is great. I can't think of any World War 2 game which captures infantry combat so well. The scale, the visuals, the weapons, the classes, they're all extremely well done. If your machine can handle HDR, even better, as it's also a very pretty game, and there are now 5-10 really good custom maps out for it, in addition to the half dozen maps that the game comes with, if you broaden your criteria to well laid out maps which need work on lighting, the number of good custmo maps doubles. Lack of maps is DoD:S's only real flaw in my mind.
CoD 2 is a neat ww2 game, and for big TDM/CTF maps I think it's a lot of fun, but DoD:S is just in a league of it's own, if you ask me.
Of couse some disagree completely with me, but I've *always* been a big fan of DoD, so perhaps I'm a bit biased.

Shoddily coded port? It ran quite well for me.
It even had a few extras too, like flying a Banshee! (IIRC, the Xbox version didn't have that feature in)

Benchmarks
There's no reason it required a top of the line GPU and processor when it came out to run at a reasonable framerate.
Of course if your computer is sporting an nvidia 7800series gpu and a more modern processor you wouldn't notice, but when it came out, it ran like a beast on the most powerful of systems. It hardly scales down too. Just a really poor, poor port (also some of the graphical effects were lost in the translation).

You could do that in campaign on the Xbox, but not in multiplayer (although I've heard that it really unbalanced the Halo 1 multi maps.) The PC version did have that nifty flamethrower though.

Thanks Y'all. I loved FEAR and FarCry. I heard Quake 4 was meant for multiplayer? Wargames just don't do it for me - I did like Return to Castle Wolfenstein...
Guess I'll have to keep looking.

No game beats Day of Defeats origional Mg42 sound(Which pissed me off to hear the neutured version used in Source DOD) But Day of Defeat still suffers from the same problems that always plauged it.
It's too damn tight, When you only have twenty cubic feet of street to work with(Thanks to all the handy cover, except the constant nade storm from the other side makes moving from cover to cover nice and steady pointless). Time and agian I wish for a nice open field or a street bigger than one lane between houses so I can acutaly advance from position to position without having to cave my way past eight germans who are trying to hide behind the same two inch block of concrete I'm using, because it's the only one aviable.
Which is why a game like Battlefield1942:Forgotten Hope mod does it so much better. Street battles don't have the nice tight bullet physics that DoD does, but it has room to move.. in SPADES. From roof-tops to sewer systems, there is always another path to traval or road to flank from if you look.

Are you looking for a single-player game or a multiplayer one? If the latter, you might want to reach waaay back in time and dust off a copy of Tribes 2. It'll run fine on any POS Windows or Linux computer you've got. Beware, though: the learning curve is merciless.

I'm looking for a single player FPS. I like to wander around and do my own thing. Postal 2 was great for this. I guess I'm easily amused but I spent hours setting the elephants on fire just to watch them stampede during the parade. And Deus Ex - in the chinese market - how fun was tossing the Ming vases around and seeing the proprietess go into conniptions?
Good times.
