Gauntlet: Seven sorrows. Umm. Yeah.

Gauntlet: Seven sorrows should, by all accounts be a major improvement over Dark Legacy, given that it's been several years since DL came out. I opened the box expecting a similar play and level-up system, with more poliched graphics, a bigger storyline, and better mechanics. What I got was quite the opposite. Now, I will start off by saying that Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows is definately more realistic; no more Over-the-top outfits (Archer graduating to a jester and so forth, and the combat system is much more...errm...combaty. there are no more potions, no more store in between levels (Well, that's kind of a lie, there is a store, but you only purchase new MOVES there, not anything else.)
The big improvement over dark legacy is it's combat system. It's nothing new: Different button smashes produce different combos, it's just the fact that it is attached to Gauntlet that makes it so What-the-fucky. Different buttons start different combos, too. For instance, the X button (Square for you heathen PS2 owners) hacks through an enemy blocker's defense.) And the animation for the combat moves are definately cool (The elf starts out with a rapier, and his thrusts and swipes look like a fencer's moves) but...I dunno, the characters seem so small...
Rememebr in Dark Legacy where, when you gain like, 10 levels or so, your outfit would change a little, your toon would grow, and your weapon may change a bit?
Gone.
Now you simply find weapon and armor upgrades in the ridiculously easy levels in chests that look like the Ark of the Covenant. And usually death hangs out with them.
Oh, yeah, and there's only 4 upgrades per character.
Camera control:
What camera control? All you can do is zoom out a bit for a little better view of the level.
Potions:
Nope.
mmm....that's about all I can say for this game. When I heard Midway was doing a new Gauntlet game, I nearly pissed myself in anticipation. When I got this Final Fight Clone set in medieval times, I nearly pissed on my Xbox.
4/10
Suck my balls, Midway. You owe me 49 bucks.
