How to fix a botched install?

Here's the lowdown: Someone once tried to install PC-cillin on my girlfriend's computer. For some reason it didn't quite take, and every time it tries to complete the installation (which is every time it reboots) the install program dies, and trying to uninstall it produces the same problem.
Anyone have any ideas what I can do to fix this?

Uninstall it and then reinstall from scratch, perhaps?

Get msconfig open, go to the startup tab and de-select the other tab. Then delete the folder related to the install, clear all your temp files and you should be good.

Also, sometimes a botched install leaves a bunch of junk in the registry that you may have to sift through and clean manually.

This
http://support.microsoft.com/default.as ... 32&sd=tech seems to be what you are describing, but doesn't tell how to solve it

She's running XP Home, so that won't help. However, with Ein and Bean's help I managed to fix the problem for now. Thanks guys.
