Now we can finally see whether the game will be as bad as many think. I'm not getting my hopes up, but damn, please be a decent game.

I'm not too happy about the scale of the space combat. The capital ships are too small, and the fighters are too big.

What in the?
Link
A Venator in Republic colours? It looks like it's fighting for the Rebels.

I'm not sure why there's any doubt: EaW will be a pretty standard RTS with SW tacked on. It even seems to have the 'paper-scissors-stone' design elements that most modern RTSs have grown out of. It's not going to be the Total War series for SW.
Vympel, that link is hilarious. The turbolaser effects get my official Stamp of Suckness(tm).

If the gamestop near me has opened pre-orders for SupCom. I'm getting rid of my pre-order for this game and putting it into that.
I was expecting something along the lines of SWTA, not Star Warcraft.
EDIT: I wonder if ESB could be an education film on the dangers of turtling.

The Total War series isn't an "RTS" as defined by the modern gaming community. It's in a class all it's own. What I'm hoping for is a fun game that retains my SoD that I'm playing a Star Wars game. The more I learn and see, the less confident I am.

I know. Why can't they watch the damn movies? Turbolaser bolts aren't that hard to get right.

I had fun with Rebellion, so who knows, maybe this one might be fun too.

I just hope it doesn't become another Force Commander....

What we played of the game today was fun, if brief. It was enough to keep our interest high and eagerly await a complete product (which we should have in the next couple of weeks hopefully) and eventually the final. With two story campaigns, the galactic conquest mode and the multiplayer version of it, and eight player skirmish, this should be the best RTS the Star Wars franchise has ever seen. We'll keep you posted with more info as we get it in the future.

Okay, everyone raise your hands if you've never played an RTS before. I understand you want accurate scaling, but RTS never have accurate scaling unless it's an original universe.
The features a lot of you are wishing for come in simulation games, and not RTS.

So IGN says So. Have you LOOKED at it? I mean, every single gameplay movie I've seen has been more pathetic then before.

Yes, and I honestly have no idea what any of you are talking about. Did you like Rebellion? I thought Rebellion was a great game. Instead of being fan whores over the graphics perhaps you should actually
read the article and see what EAW has to offer.
"OH NOOOS THE TURBOLASERS AREN'T PERFECT!!!" Give me a fucking break...

I liked Rebellion, don't generalise me as a graphics whore. If I played games for graphics I'd never have bought have my games.
Fuck the turbolasers, the entire GAME is inperfect. Have you seen the space combat? I've seen more intresting combat in a 1999 game, Homeworld, nevermind Homeworld 2. The ground combat? Ick, it looks like we went back 5 years in RTS revolution, forgot the concept of units or anything resembling tactics.
To top it off..the SW bits? Like lightsaber duels? They look like shit and as someone who likes his lightsaber combat to look good, its bad.

Also, lets look at it as a SW game.
Among the hero characters, for instance, you can expect to see Darth Vader, the bounty hunter Boba Fett, Imperial officers Piett and Veers, and Emperor Palpatine; on the Rebel side, you can expect to see Han Solo and Chewbacca (who are treated as one powerful character, even though each has individual abilities), and a promising young Mon Calamari officer named Ackbar (who is destined to warn his Rebel allies of a certain trap in a certain future space battle).
Forget the SW unrealisim, just look at it. Yes, I can imagine how great having Piett will be.
Even C-3PO and R2-D2 will be in the game, as Rebel hero characters who can smuggle themselves into Imperial territory to steal technology. Several powerful hero characters will have multiple abilities both on the ground and in space. Darth Vader can use his "force crush" ability to ravage enemy buildings and ships and his "force shockwave" ability to devastate infantry units; but in space, he'll be surrounded by wingmen TIE fighters who will soak up all incoming fire, making Vader impervious to damage until his squadron can be defeated. Boba Fett will have his customary jetpack on the ground that will let him fly over impassable terrain, capture territory, and act as a powerful scout, though in space, he'll have his Slave-1 ship, which can drop powerful seismic charges that deal damage to all nearby enemies.
CPO as a stealth unit? Force crush to destroy buildings? Nevermind the fan service of having just random movie characters to help the sales.
And to me, the gameplay is just meh. The space combat feels just like ground combat, only in space.

Chances are you'll probably like this game then. I don't see how anybody could have any problems with this game and like Rebellion. This game is simply an enhanced version of Rebellion.

I have seen it. Could you be more specific instead of throwing out vague remarks. Also, I should point out that the game has come a long way since any of the videos and the Venator was removed from the game a couple weeks ago. Thus, some of those screen shots might not be accurate.
To top it off..the SW bits? Like lightsaber duels? They look like shit and as someone who likes his lightsaber combat to look good, its bad.
Again, very old footage. Wait for the final review, but don't judge it off old screen caps and footage. Also, I don't agree with everything IGN has to say, but they are in a more objective position than you or I because they have actually played it.

What's wrong with Piett? I'm just not seeing eye to eye with you. All your complains seem very shallow.

C3PO as a stealth unit? I agree, because we've never seen them act in a stealth unit like roll before.....if you take out ANH where they were instrumental in helping Luke, Han, and Leia escape the Death Star. Then R2 has always been in a special functions type role.
I'm not getting what's wrong with having characters from the time frame that the game is in help out?

I think we're not reading the same previews. enhanced version of Rebellion? More like Force Commander, same ground combat mechanic, just added space.
Fuck the turbolasers, the entire GAME is inperfect. Have you seen the space combat? I've seen more intresting combat in a 1999 game, Homeworld, nevermind Homeworld 2. The ground combat? Okay, I'll be specific in space combat, And I'll be downloading the demo from Gamespot. To me, the space combat looks like boring crap. So far its aim the squadrons at each other, watch them fire..move past it each...180... fire more bolts. Etc. Now this could have been updated, I hope it would be updated, but so far I'm having a definite vibe that I could be playing Homeworld 2 SW mod and get alot more fun.
To top it off..the SW bits? Like lightsaber duels? They look like shit and as someone who likes his lightsaber combat to look good, its bad.

I'd LOVE to be wrong and have the game be a great SW RTS game, but so far all I'm seeing from reading between IGNs useless lines and Gamespots moderate praise for it is just another RTS, nothing new, where the space combat looks exactly like the ground combat(in terms of gameplay) and the ground combat looks like it forgot every RTS advance in the past few years.

I probably won't be downloading the demo until I hear positive praise from you Ace, 10 hours to dl something I'm gonna delete after 20 minutes isn't my cup of tea.

Textures, models, sounds. What makes every game today large.
