I'm going to venture a guess and say that Uwe Boll had nothing to do with this at all.

Nice, did anyone else spot Pyramid Head?

Nope, in fact the guys who wrote the story (one of whom is also directing) had to personally convince Konami that they knew what they were doing before they allowed them to make the film.

+ Roger Avary is the writer (Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs)
+ Akira Yamaoka is doing the music.
+ PYRAMID HEAD!

It's got Sean Bean in it, which is always a plus.

Ok, there are 2885 members of this board, some of them must have experience with the bookies. I would like to hear the odds that this film finally breaks the game-movie mold and turns out good or better.

I don't know, there are alot of films out there which had really good trailers, but turned out to be shit, mediocre, dissappointing, or just plain bad. Although, if I were going by the trailer, and if Avary and Boukhrief
did have to convince Konami before they started, then I'd say it maybe just be the first good video game to film transition. We'll have to wait till April to know for sure though.
EDIT: Oh, I found
this, which has a bit of info on the plot, and the release date.

The only thing I'm confused on is why Pyramid Head exists here. I thought that it was only a representation of the main character's guilt (or some such) from Silent Hill 2?

If it weren't for the fact I'm not a fan of horror games, I'd play SH2 just to figure out what the fucking thing is about Pyamid Head.

Pyramid Head actually shows up in all the Silent Hill games, but played a major role only in SH2.
Pick: If you're not a fan of horror games, then SH2 is definately not for you. I've been playing it in the middle of the day, and still can't stand more than an hour or two at a time. The first time you see Pyramid Head, oh man...
SPOILER:
What the... what is he doing to that mannique- oh my god...

Hey, wait ... so, he was in the first game, too? And the third? Weird. I totally missed that.
What was he doing in them all?

No, I think you had the right of it... to the best of my knowledge, Pyramid Head has never appeared in any Silent Hill game besides SH2. DPDarkPrimus might have been thinking of Valtiel, who was introduced in SH3 as one of the God's attendant demons (and who is supposedly one of the town's Old Gods, at least according to some fans).

Your link doesn't work, for some reason.
In the first Silent Hill, there are a couple Pyramid Heads hung up on the walls. I don't recall exactly when in SH3 he appeared, but I know he shows up in a sketchbook in SH4. PH only appears in a major role in SH2.

Would it not make sense then that Pyramid Head would appear in all the Silent Hill series, if only briefly? Since everyone is bound to feel some guilt about something they've done. It's just that he had such a big role in SH2 because of the huge amount of guilt that James would have.
DP, try
this one.

Pyramid Head only actually
appears in Silent Hill 2.
In universe, his appearance comes from the executioners from the civil war prisons there, via the priests of the Valtiel cult. (Walter Sullivan's "red devil" was one of these priests).
His appearance wasn't defined by James' psyche, in the way that the other SH2 monsters were, he was simply called by it, and the town itself gave him form.
(Remember though that the movie is based more on the first game, where all the monsters, and the burnt out appearance of the alternate town, and the intermittent siren, come from Alessa's psyche)
In the first Silent Hill, there are a couple Pyramid Heads hung up on the walls.
There are people hung up in steel frames, which is what Pyramid Head does to people and things, but the Man Himself doesn't appear. He wasn't designed until Silent Hill 2.

Having never played these games (though I have often wanted to) and only knowing that they're a supernatural competitor to Resident Evil, is the town and all the goings on and monsters down to each individual's mind? So if they make a sequel and follow a second character as with the games, it's a similar concept, but with different things within Silent Hill?
I always thought that the alternate hell like plane that randomly appears was when the town was misty like that and normally it was just a clear town, though empty.

I've only played SH1, but I assure you, it was
far superior to RE 1, 2 & 3. It's been a while since I've played it, but what really sticks out is the atmosphere, in the school, hospital and just running around the town, it was fantastic. I'd advise you to go pick up a copy of SH1, you should be able to get a copy of the Platinum edition secondhand in GAME or somewhere for less than a fiver.
I know SH 1&2 share a fair few locations, the hospital for sure, and a couple other places I think. And I know they share a couple monsters, the nurse/manequin things, I'm not too sure about the others.

It'd have to be damn good to beat the remake of RE which is possibly the greatest horror game out there, and RE2 is just a classic (RE3 would be the weakest of them).
They could do with bringing out a collector's set with all the games in one bundle, because I doubt I'd just be content with SH on its own.

Saw the trailer and all I can say is HELL YEAH!!! I WILL FUCKING SEE THIS MOVIE!!!!

I am also definitely getting the soundtrack too.
Oh and AV? RE sucks major ass compared to the Silent Hill games.

Well, nothing from RE1 or 2 stands out in my mind the way the atmosphere in SH does, even though it's been about 8 years since it came out, and nearly 7 since I played it. I certainly don't ever remember having to play RE with the lights on.
Edit:

There're 5 endings in SH1 to keep you happy for a bit, and I think there are atleast 4 in SH2. As to a box set, who knows? They may do when the film comes out on DVD.

The RE remake is certainly different, but then 6 years advancement in technology makes it better atmospherically. RE2 is about surviving more than creeping you out. The SH games would be more akin to the
Alone In The Dark ones for psychological horror more than survival horror, if a distinction exists.

That's what I'm hoping. If the film is a success, or even running up to it they release a special edition of the original, perhaps on PS2 along with the first sequel like some book adaptations have reprints when a movie comes out.

I haven't had a chance to try the remake of RE, never bothered with a GC. There's definatly a diffence with the psychological horror and survival, I never felt anything underlyingly sinister with RE like with SH. A review I saw on Amazon put it best I think, saying SH wasn't Survival Horror, it was Survival Terror.

I had a quick hunt around, and I doubt there'll be a full boxset, because it looks like there'll be a SH5 for the PS3, although it has yet to be officially announced.

A plague would be shit scary if you didn't know what was going on, but it's also highly possible. Suddenly finding yourself in a town that shouldn't exist and with random dimensional shifts featuring creatures of an unknown origin, well, that's shit scary and something Mulder and Scully should look into. The unknown works on you more mentally even if hardly anything really happens (how many modern horror movies have bored people because you see the monster as often as possible as really obvious, if expensive, CGI?).

At least that means if I get hooked I have a nice franchise to go through for a while.
