I'm going to be heading back to school next week and a couple of my friends and I will be playing fps games in our dorm rooms. I don't have a microphone on my laptop thus this is my biggest priority.
I already got a pair of cans but I rather preferred that both of them are together. Any suggestions?

I went down to the electronics store and spent like $20 on a computer headset and was quite happy with it. Just make sure when you are buying them that the plug isn't for a phone.

If you're shopping for quality and have the dough, I grabbed
this with Christmas cash for $75. Note that there's a non-surround $40 version too which is pretty similar. Served me well so far.

Ah, dough is the problem now that I have to factor in buying new textbooks.
I just bought a Logitech Stereo Headset for $26. It's not that great so I am returning it. The sound quality is worse than the $20 Koss cans I have and the mic has some trouble with the voice being picked up. I'd fiddle around with it more but the sound quality has already killed my liking for it.

Ah, I didn't know they made headsets too. I'll check them out.

Koss also make awesome headphones. I've got an awesome mic+headphone set that I've had for 4 years and still sound beautiful.

I'll have to check them out too.
Edit: Do you know the model number of your headset?
I just bought the Sennheiser PC150 and although the mic picks up nice and crisp, I'm not too fond with the sound coming from the cans.

I bought an almost identical surround headset a few months back, and even when not using the surround sound feature, it sounds great.

BHVideo.com carries these. Since I got two people vouching for it and they'll only give me store credit if I return the Sennheiser, I'll get it. It's going to cost me an extra twenty bucks so I hope it's well worth it.
It's too bad I'll have to do it next week since they're closed now.

Plantronics Audio-90
Been using this set for over three years now. I've dropped and slammed it on my desk repeatedly, spit into it, drinks spilled on it (not by me) and it still works like the day I bought it.
~$24 at Office Depot.
