Check this stuff out. Now that there is a working TCP/IP driver on the DS (though not quite complete), the homebrew scene has exploded with new stuff.

There's a VNC-like app...

A program that has the DS act as a PC gamepad...

An app to control xmms on Linux through the DS...

An Animal Crossing map editor...

A remote app to control WinAmp and some chat apps...

And an app to use the DS as a wireless mouse.

Okay, I'm going to go order my M3 adapter now so I can run this stuff :D Plus the emulators, movie players, MP3 players, games, and organizers already available freely out there.

Wait, that's not a true browser for the DS, but is run through a computer and therefore trickery, right? Because I want a browser for my DS, so I can procastrinate on the Internet while I'm not doing anything, like waiting for the bus. It'd save me a whole lot of time...

That's cool. I'd consider getting a DS if a remote X connection tunneled over SSH could be set up.

The browser is not out yet because the TCP/IP driver isn't completely done. http://akkit.org/dswifi/ Several browsers are in development however.

I'm thinking DSLinux.

I'd snatch that up in a heartbeat.

You can download the nightly builds here http://kineox.free.fr/DS/
Unfortunately, no WiFi support yet nor an X server. Just shell. But it's coming.

Is DSLinux usable now? With all the DS's features?
DSLinux is still in development; some stuff works and some dosen't. For example, we have a shell and the touchscreen functioning, but the WiFi does not work yet.

Is it possible to run all Linux software?
If it's a text app that runs in console you will probably be able to run it, but for graphical apps, it's improbable.

All programs will have to be recompiled for DSLinux and the DS processor.

I've been waiting to replace my old (non-SP) GBA for a while now. I've pretty much eliminated the PSP from the running, so now it's just a toss-up between the NDS and the GP2X.

I just glued my boxers to my leg. Imagine running apache or ftp on that thing! That's like the ultimate chroot jail. Hacked my ftp server? Oh well! I guess I'm out a DS and maybe a network share. You couldn't even compile a rootkit or another custom attack unless you know the DS architecture. Hell, if you wanted to get crazy, you could probably set it up as a dedicated firewall. Ooh, the possibilities! I'm all tingly.

Anyone have a box of tissues?

Ahh! Very excellent
Apparently, it's possible to run OpenGL on the DS, which of course is beyond awesome
