Firefox one time and without warning deleted all my bookmarks. This pissed me off but over the next few months, I built up a new library.
Then one day and without reason, all of THIS was gone replaced by my old bookmarks!
On my current computer I also lost all my history suddenly and without reason one day. Firefox get's PMS every few months.

I put all my bookmarks into IE, so that if it does that I can simply import them.

Hey, Firefox deleted all of my bookmarks once too! Luckily, I had just started using it and thus all of them were transferred over from IE, so I couldn't have permanently lost more than a few.
For the future, I recommend making a backup copy of your bookmarks, that you can reload should it happen again. I learned how to do it
here.

Look in your profile, maybe they're still there...

Apparently the newest version takes a backup of your bookmarks every day. In any case, one should copye one's bookmarks from the profile location to somewhere else in case shit happens. Takes less than a minute and saves a lot of grief.

There's an Firefox extension that saves your bookmarks everyday. A bit late, but its at
http://www.pikey.me.uk/mozilla/
Although the new edition has it too,...........
Other than that, have you run data recovery yet?

There's a possibility that it's still in your profile folder. It should be something like C:\Documents and Settings\<your Windows Login>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<your profile>.default\bookmarks.html
This of course assumes you're using Windows. You're on your own for Linux or Mac.
thanks much
