So I Just Got C&C Generals . . .

And where are the inbetween mission FMVs? It's just not C&C without cheesily acted video sequences! Please don't tell me I'm not going to get more than the voice briefings for the missions!

Aside from that it's pretty good, I suppose. I kinda miss the old Red Alert tactic of overwhelming everything with a swarm of heavy tanks (angry mobs trashed me when I tried that with the US tanks in this) but it's about as good as any RTS I've ever played. Unit movement when you have lots of units in a group still sucks but it sucks in every RTS I've ever played. Why 20 tanks will trundle into an enemy base one by one and get blown to bits unless you micro-manage them is something I've never been able to figure out but it's a true pain in the neck. It's got nothing on Emperor: Battle for Dune in that regard though. I had a line of mechs from my base to the enemy's in one round of that.

Sorry, there's pretty much nada in the way of a story for Generals. The US and China are both attacking these terrorists who have a hard on for bio-weapons and are stupid enough to have a capital. That's it. No in between cut scenes, unfortunatly. That bugged me, too when I played Generals.

I thought it was common knowledge that Generals is C&C in name only. That said, it's a solid RTS in its own right. For whatever reason EA slapped the C&C name on it.

Zero Hour had FMV in the form of news programs. Plus it had the interesting challenge of all the generals. The psycho-All-Tech bitch was a pain in the ass, trying to keep her from superweaponing me to hell.

That sucks. C&C without the cheesy acting just ain't right.

I don't really keep up with computer games that much anymore to be honest. I just saw the double pack of the new C&C game and the expansion pack for it on amazon.co.uk for less than a tenner and bought it on a whim because I loved both the Red Alert games and enjoyed the original C&C.

Don't think it's too hard to figure out why the used the C&C name like. It's probably worth a few hundred thousand extra sales on its own. Attach it to a half-decent game and you've got a top-seller.

That sounds great. Something to look forward to after I've worked my way through the original campaigns.

I got both the original (twive even) and the expansion. Didn't cared much for singleplayer but had some fun multiplayer matches with it. Balanced, interesting factions + original units makes a solid RTS game.

I still think the best cheesy C&C video ever was in Tiberian Dawn, when Kane shoots Seth in the head and then sits down in his chair and starts to give you orders :)

I haven't played Dawn yet. The best cheesy video I've seen yet was the one where Slavik asks CABAL to define "favorable outcome," and CABAL answers, "They all die."

The one in the Firestorm expansion pack where CABAL kills the Inner Circle of Nod generals (sans Slavik and yourself, of course) was also a really good one.

The real gold was in RA and the purdy RA2/YR. Especially Tanya.

I thought the end of RA when Kane (or at least a guy played by the same actor) killed the woman general after she killed Stalin and promptly conquered the world by default was the best myself. Or the one where Stalin snapped one of the generals' necks for making a mistake.

It was Kane. There's a reason why it's the same actor, and that's because it's the same person. He seems to be remarkably long lived...

He's blatantly non-human, the NOD ending has him infusing the planet with Tyberium and teleporting out, and he is ressurected with weird cyborg tech.
The gdi ending with him holding Umagon hostage was pretty stupid, although the scene where the NOD female second in command seduces O'neill's brother in about 3 minutes is funny.
Still, in a recent interview about the "First decade of C&C" the developer behind it said that there would be more C&C's, just wish that they would hurry up :( .

"Yes. Power does change quickly in the Brotherhood. I am Kain".

I have never been closer to saluting a computer screen then at that point :D
