Yeah just like the title says, i need a replacement Xbox Drive. I asked around town, thinking it was dust on the lense but people told me that its the result of a faulty drive Microsoft used for the orginial XBox. He said that i can buy a new drive and put it in and it will work

So i ask you, the Stardestroyer.net people if you guys have a list of all compatible drives that the Xbox will be able to run with. Plus how to install it would be good

I'm pretty sure that the Xbox uses a standard IDE drive (no top-loading). anandtech.com had an article on it a while ago; search that to confirm.

He's talking about the DVD drive. Which, whilst it is an IDE interface, has some funky bits as well, like a non-standard power interface (disconnecting its power cable will make the Xbox cry, and fail to boot at all)

The only way to use a standard IDE drive with the Xbox is to connect the IDE data cable to the DVD drive, and use a molex splitter between the HDD and your IDE DVD drive. This will allow you to play copied discs, but not original discs, and you will need a chipped Xbox, which will have to be kept open (or have cable ports dremelled into the case).

The easy way to effect a repair would be to buy an Xbox DVD drive from ebay, where they generally run to $20 or so.
