Someone copied my machine :P

With the difference being my superior raptor :) But otherwise, we're clones.

Duel Geforce 6800 GT? Isn't that the one marketted for EXTREME gamers that costs upwards of 500 bucks and immedietly caused every reader of its introductory article to whip out that old Space Moose picture?

Still, nice.

its "dual" as in two of them. I think you're thinking of the 7800 which does cost a fortune. These were relatively inexpensive, and allowed me to keep the system under $1500.

Why did you get dual 6800GTs when a single 7800GTX would have been cheaper and more powerful? Why did you get dual 6800GTs when dual 6800GS cards would have been cheaper and superior?

Why did you pay ~$35 for a trivial clockspeed increase? (3500+ over the 3200+)

AK_Jedi: He's referring to this video card. It's a complete waste because they only work in a select few motherboards, you can't run them in SLI, and a 7800GTX (which can be SLIed, and is cheaper) will outperform twin 6800GTs.

Not bad, but I would have gone for a 7800GT and a Dual Core Athlon64 X2 3800+.

The twin 6800GTs and the 3500+ would likely provide superior gaming performance.

And I'm wondering just what kind of memory he got too...

motherboard - $167
cpu - $201
hard drive - $120
case - $149
DVD burner - ~$40

The cheapest 6800GTs that Newegg offers are about $250 a piece, so figure about $500 for twin 6800GTs SLIed, that comes to... roughly $1177.

This leaves a little less than $300 for memory and shipping. Given that the big bulky case costs less than $20 to ship, I'm guessing total shipping cannot exceed $50, which leaves me to wonder just how in the hell he blew $250 and only got a single gigabyte of RAM. Granted, he could have gotten slightly more expensive 6800GTs, but even then that would still probably leave ~$200 for RAM, and you can easily get 2 GB of quality RAM for that.

True, but I prefer the dual core for running windows, av, firewall and whatever else I need to on the second core, I'm usually running a fair bit.

And I'll take the single GPU for the heat reduction, or for upgrading later to two 7800's :P

Oh, certainly, it's much less efficient than your setup, I was just remarking that his selection will push a high framerate than yours could.

True.

However I find overall 'smoothness' in games is better with the second core to handle that other stuff.
