I'm soon (I'm talking circa 24hours from now) going to be buying a wireless ADSL router for use with a 1500/256 broadband connection (hardwired to PC), Nintendo Dual Screens and eventually laptops.

What are the current standards for both ADSL modems, wireless and other bits and bobs that I should know about before I go shopping?

For the wireless bit, get a 802.11g router. It's backwards-compatible with 802.11b, so you win both ways. (DS and laptop usage)

Are you going after a router with an actual built-in DSL interface? As in, it has a phone port for the WAN?

If so, you'd better check with your ISP.

But, I would assume you're just going after a router with wireless capability that will plug into you DSL router or "modem" supplied from the phone company.

Anything will do that's 802.11G and has WPA. I've had decent luck with Linksys lately, but D-Link runs some pretty good rebate offers from time-to-time. I personally don't like D-Link, but that's just me. Netgear also has a pretty good offering.

I use this Linksys
Here's D-Link's offerings
And the fancy Netgear that my sister bought because it matched her Mac. Still good routers though.

Make sure it is an ADSL2+ compatible modem. Since the major ISPs are playing roll out ADSL2 atm.

I ended up getting a Linksys WAG54G-AU, its an ADSL2 modem with 4 port hub and wireless router running on 802.11g standard.

There's some crazy bad bitching on Whirlpool about the original version, but I'm not sure if mine is the v2... Then again, the amount of bitching on Whirlpool shouldn't be surprising.
