Video capture device recommendations

Post by SCRawl »

I'm looking for a video capture device, for things like transferring home movies to DVD. I've already been doing this with some hardware I've had for years (an ATI All In Wonder Pro in a Win98 machine) but I'm unimpressed with the results.

A USB device would be best, but an internal card would work fine as well. The system to be used is a higher-end P3 machine.

Any recommendations?

I have an ATI TV Wonder PRO (PCI), which has a component input cable that gives pretty good results, so long as you set the recording quality high. You can choose various formats for the output files.

Here are some USB devices: I used to have the Pinnacle Dazzle DVC 80 (USB device), but it was unimpressive to me. I really can't say more without knowing your price range, but I imagine anything from Plextor would be pretty good. There are plenty of reviews to help you there.
