Bought SW Empire at War

Post by jegs2 »

Being a rich officer, I can shell out clams for what I want, whenever I want ...

(with my wife's kind permission)

I like the game, though it's a bit choppy when you control a bunch of planets. Already found a money cheat code too ;) - I'm lazy like that. The game does a good job with the space battles - you can just go to cinema mode and watch 'em duke it out, but the fighters kind of hang around unless you tell them to attack something. I was disappointed in the survivability of the ISD, as compared to the VSD, but that's why we have mods out there.

Any observations from the peanut gallery?

Did you buy Empire At War or Battlefront? The text says one and your title another.

I fail to remember where

A. You're a mod.

B. There can not have multiple opinion threads on games.

Perhaps you can enlighten me, dipshit.

Have the nit pickery points raised by various members in past threads bothered you or are you overlooking those issues?

I bought this game over the weekend when my daughter brought it over to me while we were strolling through the aisles at Best Buy. She knows I love all things Star Wars (she also brought me the paperback Labyrinth of Evil when we were in B&N that same day so she was 2 for 2 on getting daddy something nice and was rewarded appropriately)

I decided what the hell and bought it despite some of the reviews here. I have to say that in many ways it seems to be an updated Rebellion - a game that I actually enojyed quite a bit back in the day. Its missing the more RPG elements of Rebellion (like getting Luke trained up to Jedi KNight then Master if you could.) but the graphics are very pretty and the fleet battles are very cool - though repetitive, essentially build up an uber fleet, begin grand tour of Rebel strongholds, concentrate all fire on any incoming threat, rinse and repeat.

But the land combat gets pretty tedious real fast - I for one despise the whole nature of some of the land battles - scouring every corner looking for that one rebel platoon hiding out. I tend to autoresolve ground combat.

I can't say its worth the price tag I paid for it but all in all a decent way to spend a few hours. GE II is by FAR a superior game and returned to that after a successful Imperial Campaign. I might try a rebel campaign sometime soon.
Wherever you go, there you are.
