How do I reinstall WMP?

WMP has been giving me problems recently, like i'll open an avi, and wmp will open then it'll just crash.

It doesn't appear to be in the add/remove programs list anywhere, and when I click the setup program in prgram files\windows media player it says it's already installed and is the latest version, so doesn't need updating.

Any ideas?

Well you can get a basic version of WMP 10 free from Windows, IIRC; it won't play DVDs or anything, but it'll play most media files. As for how to uninstall it... that's weird. :/ Look again? You may have to manually delete the folders and registry entry if that's the case...

Do not use Windows Media Player for AVI files. Use VLC Media Player. VLC is a great player.

This sounds more like a codec problem than a problem with Media Player. Do you use a codec pack? If so, uninstall and reinstall it.

In terms of players, you could also use Media Player Classic. It's just like normal Media Player, just without a playlist function.
