Now I haven't really slept in a week, so this might be a bit confusing.

Starforce are fucks. I know everyone whines about how their horribly invasive and now-useless copy protection isn't that bad, and isn't hard to get rid of etc, and I largely agreed with them. However, since their website is linking to working torrents for the copy-protection free GalCiv2, it's clear they're just wankers. Amusingly, most reputable sites I visit refuse to allow linking to illegal torrents of this nature, but Starforce cares so deeply about data security that their employees encourage pirating of non-protected software. What a bunch of fuckholes.

Now, I don't care about copy protection. Having a clue, I've not encountered a inconvienient-to-destroy copy protection scheme since the first Starforce games came out. And of course anyone can simply google for torrents, etc. But the people at Starforce are so fixated on copy protection(likely their own brand of 'lolz DT defeats your expensive scheme' copy protection) that they are extremely unimpressed by any negative press copy-protection as money-protection might recieve. This to the point of linking to illegal torrents to prove their point. Bah!

These are the same guys who threaten legal action when someone calls their software buggy shit that is practically (and illegally) infringing on customer rights, yes?

It's not quite as sinister as all that. It looks like one of their admins posted the link on their forum to the torrents, and I doubt anyone from the company told him to do that or was particularly pleased about it.

Well, lets say you worked at a company which produced any kind of software. Would you post links to pirate versions of competitors software on your official board? No?

It's indicative of the atmosphere in the company and their attitude. They only removed the link because it was no longer valid because Stardock contacted the site and asked them to pull it.

Fuckers.

It's Stardock's forum, and the poster's name certainly says he's from Stardock. Or am I confusing something here?

Starforce just delivered a rather blaise and backhanded apology to Stardock. I'll see if I can refind it to quote.

In the end, on behalf of the whole StarForce I would like to tender our apologies to all people, who have been working on creation of the game Galactic Civilizations II. We have to officially claim that what has happened is just a mistake of our employee that was boosted into “our planned PR action” by the people, who hate StarForce. Using this link, he just wanted to show that every non-protected game can be cracked (in case of some own simple protection) or just put onto the internet resource for public use, sooner or later. I think he guessed that finding the first link to a recent non-protected game would be the best proof. We have to accept that he chose the wrong way for that, but he is just a human and mistakes are human’s nature.

This employee has been responsible for the branch “General questions” during this week, that’s why nobody else had seen this topic and couldn’t remove the links till we heard negative references from different sources. We have to claim that this has been the first and the last time we allowed posting a link to a resource with illegal content on our forum by our staff. And we will strengthen the administration of the forum to keep it clear from similar links posted by forum members and others.

In further we will necessarily improve our Forum, especially its rules and policy.

Please, once again accept our deepest apologies for inconveniences caused by this issue

Amazing how they turn an apology into a "All games without our software are teh suck" rant. Starforce, there's probably a reason that people hate you.
