Pirates! crashing constantly

I picked up a copy of Sid Meier's Pirates! (the remake) yesterday . I've greatly enjoyed what I've gotten play, but the game crashes so damned much that I can't get very far.

I've done everything I can think of to fix the problem. Turned off shadows and stuff in the game, downloaded the patches, updated my display drivers, but nothing works. If anybody's encountered this problem and knows how to fix it, I'd be very grateful if you'd tell me.

Try exchanging it for another copy. My buddy's X-box copy hasn't had any problems.

One of the most stable games I've played recently, for my part. How does it crash exactly? Hard crash so you have to reboot, out to desktop, speakers putting out all sorts of weird noise (my fucking motherboard conflicitng with my video card, don't ask)?

Do you have a dual-core CPU by any chance? Some games go batshit on them. You have to set the affinity to single core to get it to work.

Usually crashes to the desktop, but I've had to reboot once or twice. No weird noise from the speakers.

And no duel core CPU, Quorthon.

Perhaps I'll investigate the ninja lead..

My sister had some trouble playing it on a Dell desktop, though that could have been a graphics card thing.

This might be it. I've got a Dell. Did she ever figure out a way to make it work?

Afraid not. She'd borrowed it from someone so she just gave it back. This was a while ago though, so it's possible there's a more recent patch that might help.
