Desktop cases making a comeback?

Is it just me or do desktop cases seem to be cropping back into the consumer market? I know they never went out of style for commercial use but for a time it seemed as though anything but the tower for the average user and the enthusiast was almost unheard of. Now they seem to be popping up at various hardware sites I visit and people have been bringing them in for upgrades.
Could be my imagination.

What's a desktop case? You mean a computer case that sits under the monitor, like for an original IBM PC or an Apple ][?

Either that, or two other possibilities:
A desktop that's built into the monitor, like the iMac, or:
A fancy desktop case, like what you can order at some websites, with the rad paintjob and all.

he means the cases which used to go beneath the monitor, before towers became popular.
And personally, I haven't seen very many desktop cases in stores, but I raely visit stores anyway, unless I need to.

Desktop cases never really went away in the corporate and academic world.

I only ever see towers apart from in IBM or Dell ads in the papers. I can't imagine anyone wanting a hulking big case on their desk when you can have it sat out of the way. The trend is for less space being taken up there, hence LCD monitors over CRTs.

Where are you seeing them? I see plenty of Silverstone and Coolermaster desktop cases, but anything that's DIY is hardly a consumer item.

Some applications, like computer labs, lend themselves more to desktop cases that sit underneath the monitor than to towers.
