I'm definately looking forward to trying both these races out on the field. I hope they throw a few Kroot in with the Tau to give them some sort of good CC abilities.

All seven races?

Space Marines
Chaos
Eldar
Orks
Imperial Guard
Necrons
Tau

...

What happened to the Tyranids? Don't they count anymore?

Bah.

Dark Eldar too, although nobody likes or plays them. And the 2 (3 if the Deathwatch/Ordo Xenos ever gets made) Inquisitorial ones could probably have their own faction, maybe just a standard "Inquisition" faction like the hodgepodge generic "Chaos" one

Tau, but no Tyranids? Bah!

Although I can understand the decision. The 'nids are pretty different than the other races in terms of army mechanics. It would be alot of work to include them and be faithful to the spirit of the army.

...still, I can dream about synapse creatures walking around doubling as unit builders...

From Tranj, the THQ guy on the DoW forums - Relic DoW forums

The cat is out of the bag a couple weeks early, but yes, this information is correct. Dawn of War: Dark Crusade does in fact include the Tau and the Necrons. There will be massive amounts of video and screenshots coming out of E3, and I even will try and make our entire E3 presention available in HD online somewhere. I can truly say that I have not been more excited about the new races. I have never been a huge Necron fan, but not surprisingly the designers and artists have done an incredible job on both races, and the Necrons are a sight to behold!

As for the "All 7 races" comment, this was not our copy, and shows that this was in fact incorrectly times release of information. We all know there are eleventy races in 40k.

I wonder how this will affect current balance. I remember going from vanilla to winter assault was a huge difference, at least for eldar. I enjoyed it really, it was like playing a different game for me; it required competely new stradegies and build orders. I do, of course, dislike the gimping that happened to my poor guardians :(

At least you have Fire Prisms to console you.

I have to wonder how exactly they are going to make a story with the Tau in it. They don't exactly have that many planets or crusading armies out there to fight with, do they?

It might tie in with this summer's Fall of Medusa V campaign, which features the Tau.

So... now the game will have massively-increased IG, and massively-weakening Necrons? Oh, yay. The Tyranids would at least have fit their ridiculous 'break everything to fit RTS mould' strategy... the Necrons will be nuts. I wonder if they'll even have scarabs? If they do, I foresee millions of people crying 'hax'.

Can't say I'm surprised by Necrons, given they appeared in Winter Assault.

Will this be adding units for the existing sides as well as the new races?

I would be surprised if anyone was surprised.

I'd imagine so.

I'm hoping that for the ranks of Chaos they do something similar to what the Depth of Heresy mod did. Basically when you start out you pick one of the Chaos gods you want to follow, or to go with Undivided, and then from there you get different types of units.

You imagine incorrectly.

They're not putting any new units for existing races.

But we're getting two whole new races, so it doesn't bother me, personally.

noise marines should be allowed to play their own MP3s while playing in multi-player...

and yes, if you destroy the noise marines "Enya" goes away... for now////

Dark Eldar would be a quite difficult race to implement, I think. They're basically high-speed Wrath-o-EVAL that appear out of nowhere, ravage the battlefield, and zoom away. They're not one for outright battles. I imagine they would do a seriously devastating job on morale, though...

Tyranids are slightly bothersome as you don't really have a builder unit per se for them. However, you could probably do something like the Zerg; beyond that, no biggie.

I'd rather fancy seeing the Eldar equipped with Wraithguard as well...

One thing I'd love to see implemented (though highly unlikely) is specialist units for the various canon factions; example, if you toggle it on in a sub-menu in Options, you can have such things as Rune Priests for the Space Wolves, and only if you play that Chapter. Wraithguard being used primarily by Biel-tan. Warlocks and suchlike being a strong feature of Ulthwe. While improbable and likely difficult to apply, it'd be fun to have.

ACK! ACK ACK! (Do not run, we are your friends)
Not overly surprising, really.

Tau sound like fun though, I'm all for the 'stand a long away away and shoot them' strategy.

I've said it before but it's never seemed to stick, so I'll say it again:

Tyranids will 'never' appear in an expansion for Dawn of War.

We don't feel we could do them right with the current game, in the current engine. Tyranids cannot be an 'atypical' RTS race, and to get them right requires more work then is possible in the scope of an expansion.

Note, I'm not saying they won't ever appear, just never in an expansion.
