Ace Combat 0: The Belkan War
Anyone else got this yet? I just picked up my copy today. A review will be forthcoming when I can tear myself away from it.

Its out already!?! Dammit I'm broke. Guess I'll have to start flying the Megalith mission from AC4 to retrain myself

AND great music, among the best in the video game industry. I'd put it over Final Fantasy.Vendetta wrote:Ace Combat games are always shitloads of fun. High drama, fighterporn and explosions, everything a game needs
Unfortunately, I wouldn't expect to see a UK release until well into the summer, because they always take months to come out here.
I ordered mine Tuesday (because the military PX here sucks fucking ass) and it's supposed to be delivered tommorow -- god I can't wait though. Oh, and AC5 is a great game in it's own right -- keep in mind though, AC5 "feels" very different, they changed a lot of the physics around, missiles are much faster, and longer ranged. Also a more developed story and my favorite $64 game soundtrack of all time.
I loved AC5 myself, but for some reason, I just can't stop playing Megalith. I can't think of any AC5 mission that I replay over and over like that.

Spoiler Warning: Only read if you want to be totally spoiled for the ending of Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan WarNeoGoomba wrote:I loved AC5 myself, but for some reason, I just can't stop playing Megalith. I can't think of any AC5 mission that I replay over and over like that.
The second to last mission of Ace Combat 0 is very similar to the megalith mission from AC 04. You have to fly into a dam and destroy the launch control mechanism for a massive neuclear warhead about to be launched by a bunch of renegade soldiers from different nations. Close quarters flying, and the occasional enemy plane sneaking in there makes this mission a bitch to accomplish.

Longer ranged missles? Great news, I say. It always annoyed me in AC4 that it's spitting distance from max missle range to max gun range.PFC Brungardt wrote:AND great music, among the best in the video game industry. When do we get the F-108 swarm flying at triple sonic speeds and launching nuclear tipped AAMs to break up enemy Belkan fighter squadrons?

If it was on the PC, I'm sure some HAB like person would make such an add-on. Maybe you can e-mail NAMCO and suggest they include craft that never made it into service.MKSheppard wrote:When do we get the F-108 swarm flying at triple sonic speeds and launching nuclear tipped AAMs to break up enemy Belkan fighter squadrons?
Oooooo. But is there kickass Latin music too?Darksider wrote: The second to last mission of Ace Combat 0 is very similar to the megalith mission from AC 04. Oh yeah, that's no spoiler, the music I heard the trailer was a spiffy, more lively latin sounding interpretation of the Razgriz theme in AC05. Sounds great, I'll order the soundtrack too.NeoGoomba wrote:Oooooo. But is there kickass Latin music too?Darksider wrote: .
Unfortunately though, I'm pissed cause it's now Thrusday and I was supposed to get my game today. Fucking Amazon / UPS.
edit: the mention of the latin music wasn't a spoiler, everything else was
It would make me angry if the final mission track WASN'T an awesome latin song. First "Agnus Dei in AC4", then "The Unsung War" in AC5. AC0 has a lot to live up to. How was the soundtrack in the PSone games? I dont think I ever played them

Too bad the B-70 appears in Ace Combat 4.Admiral Valdemar wrote:Maybe you can e-mail NAMCO and suggest they include craft that never made it into service.

The PSone games in the series sucked ass. I tried Ace combat 3, and it was terrible. It had stupid techno music, and incredibly poorly designed "futuristic" planes instead of the current roster of modern aircraft.NeoGoomba wrote:It would make me angry if the final mission track WASN'T an awesome latin song. As for the final track in Ace Combat Zero, it's kind of like the a much peppier version of "The Unsung War" from AC 5.

Query: Does Ace Combat 0 work with the HOTAS from Ace Combat 5? Also, does the HOTAS from Ace Combat 5 work just fine with a PC?
Do not meddle in the affairs of insomniacs, for they are cranky and can do things to you while you sleep.

You tried the wrong one. AC1 and AC2 had all modern planes, though AC2 had the ADF-01 and XFA-27 as the "super planes". (You only get the XFA-27, which is the only jet in the game that can fire four missiles at once instead of two). Some of the missions were wicked cool, and AC2 gave the player his first taste of flying down a tunnel to destroy an enemy target.Darksider wrote:The PSone games in the series sucked ass. As far as I recall, yes, the flightstick will still work.Hotfoot wrote:Query: Does Ace Combat 0 work with the HOTAS from Ace Combat 5? Also, does the HOTAS from Ace Combat 5 work just fine with a PC?
In fact, I think it even works with the Energy Airforce games as well.
You can get drivers for it for the PC, but they're basic. If you want it as a serious PC joystick, get the original. It's a slightly redone Saitek X-45 PC joystick anyway.
