So, Martin Septim, the last of the Dragonborn, sacrifices himself to become the Avatar of Akatosh and do battle with Mehrunes Dagon in the ruins of the Temple of the One in the Imperial City.

Pretty fucking cool.

But what now? I'm shocked that they basically wiped out the Septim line. Who will rule the Empire now? The Amulet of Kings is gone and the Dragon Fires are (for reasons unexplained) no longer necessary, so I guess you don't need the Dragonborn Emperors, but still- this is very, very bad. With the Dragon Throne empty and no successor, the Empire will surely tear itself apart as people try to claim the throne.

Very, very, very bad.

Is there going to be another Elder Scrolls game?

Hopefully, expansions for Oblivion will resolve the issue.

The Blades, for their part, revert to their "ancient role" of awaiting another Dragonborn. But can there be any other?

It is the Fourth Age now - perhaps the Empire will tear itself apart to make way for a new system.

The chaos caused will be directly proportional to the amount of fooling around the Emperors have done. How many bastards and obscure family branches have been spawned to date? Be interesting to see what direction they take with that.

The logical direction for a new game would be the empire tearing itself apart, reflecting that on a local level wherever they choose to let us explore, and having multiple endings depending on how the player chooses to solve the main quest. (Daggerfall had about seven, depending on who you gave the ultimate macguffin of destiny to).

I'd say the next one should be set around the border area where High Rock, Hammerfell, and Skyrim meet, with a bit of each province to explore (having all of the three provinces would, I think, be a bit of a burden on the poor bastards who actually have to design and populate it all). Bretons, Nords, and Redguard all itching to put holes in each other.

I'm not sure there are any left. Martin himself was a bastard, and he was placed under the protection of the Blades from infancy. There are the Emperor's three sons- they themselves were middle-aged (in their 50s) when they were asssassinate and surely must've had some heirs? If so, it could be very messy. But if they did, surely someone would've mentioned it in the game? Their heirs would likely have been in their 20s, making agitation for the throne quite likely if they did indeed exist?

Was more referring to bastards from prior generations. Unless you're implying that every Emperor since Tiber Septim stayed faithful and true to his Empress, if he even had one.

Possibly, but no one seems to be aware of their existence. If they're unknown, then do they have a chance for a real claim?

For Oblivion, all the Daggerfall ending occured. The ultimate macguffin of destiny expends itself during this occurance.

Needless to say this leads to some confusing history :P

It'd be cool if you, as your character, could make a claim for the throne and start a war of succession. I'd buy that expansion in a heartbeat.

I've heard a rumor that they're already working on TES V. Hopefully they won't cop out like they did with the throw a remarks about the Nevarine. I really, really want to see them take the procedural generation to the next level, and generate a whole continent, fully populated with cities, towns and minor NPCs. The major NPCs, quests and dungeons could be placed by hand, and the generated landscape and urban areas tweaked by hand. Will I get that? Maybe to some extent.

Hehe. Watch TES5 use the Total War engine, as the Champion of Cyrodil makes his bid for domination of the shattered empire. That'd rock.

I agree. I was boggled after the battle that Chancellor Ocato wasn't panicking over the collapse of the Imperial Line.

What I saw was in Martin's last line as he speaks to you as Akatosh - "The future is yours", or something to that effect. I thought that that would mean that YOU would be the first of whatever new dynasty was established- I mean, you are the Campion of Cyrodiil, Battler of Mehrunes Dagon, Hero of Kvatch, probably Grandmaster of the Fighter's Guild, Archmage, etc... You're the clear choice.

Especially since in my game, after the battle Ocato killed the Grandmaster of the Blades. I don't see his life continuing very long after that.

That would be because Jauffre hit Ocato accidentally during the battle. :P

In my game, Jauffre fell before we even reached the Temple distric.

Heh, same thing here! All the Blades with actual characters are dead in mine, one died in Anvil and Jauffre... Well, he got stabbed by Ocato.

What someone needs to do is develop a mod for, maybe Age of Empires 3 or R:TW or something, where you command the armies of the Empire and try to keep it from tearing itself apart- Kind of like I used to play Master of Orion 2, switch to Homeworld for major space battles, and switch to Alpha Centauri to 'build' colonies.

All the Daggerfall endings occuring has been canon since Morrowind, maybe even before. There is even a special name for the event, though it escapes me. Basically there was a really weird time-warp where the main character ends up giving seven different Numidiums (and its power source) to seven different people. Who then used them to accomplish seven different ends, and then the timelines merged toguether. Numidium presumably didn't survive, or they all merged into the one given to the Emperor.

I was going to make a thread about that. Well, The Elder Scrolls: Total War, anyway.

Oh, didn't I mention I was psychic? By the way, that plan to rob the Chestersville Retirement Home? Not cool, man, not cool.

8)

So, units for Elder Scrolls: Total War- how to break it up? Entire classes of units for the different races/ factions? So you have a full roster of unit types for the Imperial Legion, then the Houses of Morrowind, the Nords of Skyrim, the Argonians of Argonia, the Khajit of Elsewyr etc etc?

Why not break it down further - the western provinces in particular are pretty unstable. So like R:TR, have lots of zone-specific recruits, so you can get Nordic mercenaries in eastern Morrowind, Argonian slaves in southern Morrowind, etc. You'd need to include nutbar hero units (like in Master of Magic), so you'll get Vivec and His Dudes, those guys that guarded the wraithwall, etc.

Some areas that are more cosmopolitan would end up with more flexible unit lists, but that's okay. I wonder if you should include things like Morrowind Dwemer Armour troops, or elite squads of Water Walking skirmishers?

Re: Morrowind Dwemer Armor, it was my understanding that the Dwemer armor in Morrowind is not "really" armor intended to be worn, but is actually just scrap machine parts cobbled together into a kitbash suit.

Compare to the set in Oblivion, which looks like proper "armor" for the Dwemer.

In my game, Jauffre died outside the Palace (along with the Imperial Legion Messenger and the majority of the Palace Guard). Baurus was, last I saw him, alive, as Martin and I made our way to the Temple of the One, but I never saw him again after (I went to Cloud Ruler Temple but he was nowhere to be seen). I can only assume he died outside the Temple.

I could try and keep them alive with a healing spell, but with the slowdown on my PC was too difficult.

Neither Jauffre or Baurus survived the battle at the Great Gate in my game. Though it should be noted I was somewhat seperated from them on the battlefield, fighting alongside some common soldiers, who did survive happily.

My approach to the battle at the temple of the one was to run like buggery, because at the level I was at the area got swarmed with Xivilai, Dremora Markynaz, Storm Atronachs, and Spider Daedra, and the Guard forces had an average lifespan measured in the seconds.
