Never let it be said that the Deathstalker is inflexible. I downloaded and installed FF today, and so far I am impressed with it. My yahoo mail comes up far faster, and a number of other sites that I have noticed load slow with IE come up quick with FF.

I made the step a few months ago and I'm not going back to IE again, IE7 or no IE7.

The only problems I've run into are some government sites are wriiten in such a way that forms sometimes don't fill out properly. Otherwise, I love Firefox.

I've actually had some severe stability issues with Firefox that I never had with IE. If it weren't for the tabbed browsing ability, I would go back.

Personally, I'm using IE7 right now, and I'm not seeing any large advantage to any other browser over it. It has a few bugs(it's in beta) but its a smooth experiance so far.

If it's down to certain websites, it's because Firefox follows the ISO standards, whereas IE has their own, MS standards, that everyone is meant to use (MySpace a good example of fucking up in anything but IE).
As for crashing, never happened in anything but pre-version 1 releases with me.
Also, for the broadband users, use
this to optimise the speed of Firefox.

Aside, you mean, from the vast numbers of extensions, tweaks, themes and general adaptibility and customisation offered by Firefox. IE has only just got tabbed browsing!

It seems to be completely random. Every 1-3 weeks, Firefox WILL crash and I'll have to tell the task manager to kill it, destroying whatever it was that I was working on.

I'm not saying it's endemic to Firefox; merely that my personal experience has found it to be a far less reliable browser than IE.

I'm a simple man to please and non of Firefoxs extensions look inviting to me.
IE7 has tabbed browsing that works, compatability with all sites and is smooth loading. Need I ask for more?

FOOL! You must have gimmicks!

That's bizarre. It could be a faulty installation (I assume you have the latest 1.5 release), so I'd reinstall if you haven't already and check things are working smoothly. Windows XP, right? Should be no problems. V1.5 works perfect on XP and Ubuntu for me.

Exactly, gimmicks. When I want feature overdose, I go to Opera, built in Mail, RSS, newsgroups, everything I can think of. IE7 complements that. What would Firefox add to my browsing?

Neither does Opera. Opera feeds cute swedes.

A (somewhat) more secure environment without uncessary Active-X stuff?

Ahh, sorry. Well, I guess this comes down to personal taste.

I switched over to Firefox after using Mozilla for quite some time. It almost seems like Firefox uses more memory and has instances of lag I didn't experience with Mozilla (loading pitures in new tabs will sometimes freeze the whole browser for seconds, sorting through the History takes much longer, and everytime I click or sometimes hover over the 'Go' menu tab it locks up for 10+ seconds). Although it has been running with less stability issues (Mozilla would every week or two pop up with some damned netscape message and crash my browser, or some similar quirk).
I really just need to grab some themes or edit some functions. Not having a 'New Tab' button is almot disabling and I dislike that my address bar doesn't put the most-recently entered URLs at the top.

Yes, how could I forget my other knock against it?
Right now, it's using nearly 150MB of RAM, despite the fact that I only have two tabs open (one to SD.net, and the other to Google).

Okay, the first one's not a problem. When you're in Firefox, use CTRL+T to open a new tab. Mine is set to take me to Google whenever I do that, and I'm sure there's a macro out there that would let you open to the most recent website.

I had firefox recommended to me by a techhead friend who believes everything alternative must be better. I run both IE and Firefox; I prefer the tabbed browing on Firefox, but it has problems with cookies and sites like myspace (I'll put my details into a site to sign up and it will say I haven't written the code properly etc). If there's a way around this I'd be grateful for assistance (I have history deactivated for obvious reasons, so maybe thats it?).

That's a lot. I have three tabs open (SD.net, the TFN forum and the BBC News website) and Firefox is currently using 75MB of RAM.

There is a memory leak that has yet to be pegged with Firefox, but right now it doesn't seem as prevalent to me as in the past, though my Linux distro runs smooth even when RAM is practically exhausted next to my Windows one.
The crashes are an anomaly to be sure, because no one else I know has every had such crashes unless it's a terribly badly designed website.

I've only experienced one crash (a message was displayed that Firefox had stopped responding)
I noticed when I first tried Firefox last year that Firefox used more than a hundred MB of RAM for a single window and so I kept using IE. With the release of Firefox 1.5, the memory leaks seemed to be far less severe than before and it was that version that made me jump to Firefox.

It uses about 45 megs to open three tabs on my machine, and reliability is total, I cannot recall any crash of the browser. I downloaded the beta of the latest version of IE though and it has tabbed browsing so for those of you with firefox trouble that could be your solution.

After a few days I need to close FF, since it balloons out memory-wise. But I'll never use a Microsoft product if a functionally similar or better alternative exists - which basically means the only Microsoft product I use is XP.

Get the session saver extension. It not only makes recovery from a crash painless (all your open tabs are restored), but it also allows you to change your surfing habits. I quite often bite of more then I can chew while surfing, so to speak. So before, I would have to leave FF open while I go do whatever else I needed to do so that I don't loose the content. Now I close it, and when I come back all is restored perfectly.

If you're having memory issues, open a new tab, and close all your existing tabs. You should see your memory usage go right down. It's all because Firefox is saving your browsing history, to the point where you could probably hit back all the way to what you had when you first opened the browser window.
It *is* apparently fixable in about:config, though I don't know what the setting is off the top of my head.
