MGS4 Trailer

Mininova has a torrent with the latest quarter of an hour trailer from E3 this year, it's 100 megs, so it's not easy to get, but better than streaming.
Firstly, wow. The graphics are simply amazing and all in-game!
Secondly, the Gekkous are going to be fucking nasty foes, even if you consider their biomechanical make-up (I assume the organics self-repair better in the field than expensive mechanical components).
Thirdly, will Liquid ever die?!
Fourth, I hope this resolves the Patriot plotline, but then I'm sure it must. Seeing the Colonel for real is interesting and we see Naomi mentions more on how Foxdie is killing Snake.
Fifth, the world is a shithole, but not altogether too different from ours today in many respects.
Sixth, the opening reminded me of Firefly.
Seventh, Meryl didn't die and she has her Desert Eagle still.
Eighth, Raiden. WTF?

The Meryl ending from the original MGS is the canon ending. This was established some time ago.
And what about Raiden? I can't download the trailer from these public machines.

I knew about Meryl, but was just reiterating that a) she's here, b) she's doing stuff, since I still seem to read people going on about what ending was the right one.
Raiden? Oh, he's back. And he's practically gone Cyborg Ninja on us. He singlehandedly kicks the shit out of a dozen MG Gekkou units using either his brute strength (exoskeleton skullsuit) or katana that must be an ultrasonic blade to cut so well. Whatever happened to him, he's probably pissed off (perhaps Olga's baby was killed?). There seems a very Ghost In The Shell feel to this installment too. It's not unlike the WWIII depictions in 2nd Gig in some places what with the near future cyberwarfare tech and the real setting. The Gekkous also sound like Combine weapons in HL2.

FFS, I still havent played MGS3.
And I liked Raiden!

What the Raiden haters fail to realize is that he *is* Gray Fox. He's Frank Yaeger's replacement, and the original looked just like him prior to his borging. And Olga's katana is a HF blade.

What the fuck are you doing?! Get MGS3 NOW! Complete it, you prize 'tard, it's got fucking Soviet hardware and flair up the wazoo.
And you'll probably be scared of Raiden now. He's not going to be called a nancyboy now without ruining your shit.
Get the trailer, MGS3 is really a substory anyway while MGS4 is a direct continuation from MGS2. You need to get MGS3 soon though because a) it's good, b) it develops a lot of backstory. May as well wait for MGS3: Subsistence.

I'd assume Grey Fox's was too, given it had a shimmer effect and cut men in half with one swipe (and in the wanked out remake, he cut up concrete blocks like butter).

Go, get it. Honestly of all of them, I liked it the best and really gave such a nice start for how all this shit began. But on an unbiased view, it really is such a good game and the ending has that nice punch in the stomach feel.
Also the special version gives MG1 and MG2.

Get the soundtrack too. Harry Gregson-Williams = god.

You are correct, sir.
And I can't believe Vympel hasn't played MGS3! It's like it was made specifically for him!

I have it! I even started playing it ... but then ... games for PC came out and ... went overseas and ... came back and there was Oblivion and GalCiv 2 and ... ack!
I'll get on it immediately.

You'd bloody better, or I'll kick your arse.
I'm also intrigued that Kojima-san has talked about MGS4 answering the main questions from the second game.
- * The secrets behind The Patriots
* Vamp's apparent immortality
* Olga's orphaned child
* The truth behind Ocelot's possessed arm
* The real fate of Solid Snake
According to the Wiki. I'm also wondering what the theme for the final game is, given the first three form a trilogy that deal with modern day issues such as genetic engineering, censorship and the rise of technology and various parties that use them.

From what I've been able to tell it's: ZOMG! WAR!!!

Hmm, good point. Blindingly obvious really, humph.

I notice that the vehicles used by one of the PMC units are Strykers and Mobile Gun Systems (MGS, ironically). The use of the SOPMOD M4 carbine is going to make things easier weapons-wise too (given it has an M203 on it and various assorted add-ons using Picatinny rails etc.) along with the "Solid Eye System" which will replace the usual optical aids and soliton based radar. The Gekkou/Moonlight units also seem to have a standard MG in the head, two M2s on some models (assume modular system) on the head wings, pylons for two Stinger or similar guided missile system and various 'nade launchers, as well as brute strength, agility and those whiplike sensor tentacles.
Oh yeah, the adaptive camo pattern skullsuit is good too. For those of us who have played MGS3, it should be a welcome thing to have one suit adapt to local patterns rather than carry a whole load of covers for each terrain. Not quite therm-optic camo, but good all the same.

I keep hoping (some of) MGS2 was a bad dream. Really, the whole thing about Liquid Snake's arm and Revolver Ocelot really rubbed me the wrong way. I would've preferred if they had just brough LS back in his MGS form, the blonde version of SS.

Jeez, from seeing stills on the Wiki of Otacon, Meryl, "Liquid" Ocelot, and Raiden, MGS4 can't be set very far at all after MGS2: They look almost exactly the same while Snake's accellerated aging has really given him the shit.

..damn they're certainly trying hard to get rid of Raiden's sissyboy image aren't they?

Raiden's sissyboy image only occured in the English version. In the Japanese he has a less whiny and sissy VA, which IIRC, is a bit like the Japanese Snake. In the Japanese Raiden is more of the tough guy prettyboy type.
But Kojima was seriously not happy with the casting of English Raiden for MGS2, so perhaps that has influenced his design for 4.

Snake's accelerated aging? Oh goddamit. Who the hell wants to see their gaming hero grow old? Not me, that's for sure.
I haven't seen the video yet, it'll be hours before I'm in a position to
Do they have a new VA for Raiden?

Yeah, IIRC according to Kojima, Snake only has about six months left to live.

Luckily, I've learned from secret sources that Snake's hair gets turned into a wig, which Riaden buys on one of his trips to the mall, which then possesses Raiden with Snake's spirit.

It is supposed to be a side effect of his cloning from Big Boss (he aging is accelerated due to the age of teh source genetic amterial) and of the Les Enfants Terribles.

The sad part is that for a few beats, I actually thought you were serious and believed that the MGS people were dumb enough to put that in the storyline. It wouldn't be that much worse than the shit from MGS2.

Yes, I know that.

Did you play MGS3? It was explained.
