I'll kick you right in the Pii (the PS3 haters thread).

I'll lead off with:
What the fuck do you mean that you can't just UPGRADE a basic PS3 by buying the new HDD or HDTV support or WiFI - you have to buy a WHOLE NEW FUCKING CONSOLE. Smooth, douchebags.

Eh? So, all the stuff between the crip and full versions isn't installable - they're two totally separate units?
FAILED.

Apparently so. There is NO upgradability in the base unit. Fucking tops.
My second question:
7 controllers? What the fuck... Why the fuck do you have 7? Any number of controllers supported should be divisible by 2. Or at least by 3. A prime fucking number of controllers is no good unless you are going to have a fucking "piggy in the middle" game.

I can't say that I hate the PS3. But damn, Sony is really pulling off some dumb shit.

Hate is a strong word, but Sony just are acting like enormous douchebags.
Another thing that we discussed on radio yesterday in our E3 coverage:
Will MS' Live Anywhere, be coded to run as a 3rd party App on the PS3? I'd say its possible given that Sony have said that online matchmaking/server hosting etc will all be arranged by the developers, rather than having a fully integrated system such as Live. This sounds to me like a perfect opportunity for MS to REALLY stick one in Sony's tight little hole.

So which one's the $600 console... the base model or the fully-loaded model?

I wouldn't say that I hate the PS3, I just think that Sony is making bad decisions with towering arrogance, and after that rootkit garbage, I can't wait to see them take a bath.

Sony is cruising toward alienating one very satisfied customer in my case. The fact that I'm even considering a PS3 says more about Konami and Square-Enix than it does Sony.

Price points are 500 US for basic and 600 US for the non-crippled one. Which means, given standard VG mark-up for us Aus gamers (who at least will get a world-wide release this time - fuck you every other console ever) means that the non crippled will be retailing in the magical 4 figures amount. Thats a LOT of fucking money.

Yeah, that pretty much sums up my general reaction.

The PS3 controllers are bluetooth, which supports a maximum of 8 devices. And the PS3 is counted at one. Therefore, 7 controllers at most. However, this could decrease with any bluetooth peripherals, like headsets and such. However, 4 controllers is a practical limit, because split screen games become confusing above that amount.
I had figured that the base model wouldn't be upgradable, given that the things that would be added were shown to be built into the system itself. Compare this to the xbox 360, where the only thing on the core system that cannot be upgraded is the chrome front of the DVD tray, everything else on the 360 can be upgraded to be like the Premium.
BTW, Sony's stock has taken a dive over the past week.
Yahoo link The amount of how FUCKED Sony is, in a convenient graph form.

Two opinions:
One, the base system is a load of shit. Lack of HDMI means no 1080P, a key selling point. Lack of memory readers means no backwards compatability, even worse. There's zero reason to get a base PS3.
Two, that stock drive..is..WOW. NASTY.

I agree, although one thing to note- the base PS3 DOES support HDTV, through component out, I believe. You just have to upgrade to get HDMI, which supports 1080p and HDCP (Microsoft doesn't even have HDMI IIRC).
However, since Blu-ray is supporting HDCP...any movies that ship with content protection will be downgraded to 540p unless you've got the higher end PS3.

Looking at the models, you can't upgrade.

It makes plenty of sense. Econ 101. The higher the price is, the less of them will be demanded. It is most optimal to find an equilibrium point where price equals demand.
On this graph, it shows the 300 dollar XBox as cheap, and demand above it. The 400 dollar one matches nearly the demand, which results in maximum revenue.
The PS3 meanwhile, is expensive and there's less demand. It gets less revenue.

The 360 outputs to a properitary A/V connector, which then breaks out to VGA, component, or pretty much what ever you want. Given that MS announced a HD-DVD player add-on for the 360, I'm willing to bet that it support HDCP (otherwise, why the fuck have a HD-DVD player?). Sony, however seriously fucked up by dropping the HDMI connection the base model - there goes any reason to get it as a cheap Blu-ray player.

I think it was just the fact that someone made and posted such an image, since anyone with remedial economics knowledge will know it's a standard SD graph. Although the Sony fanboys won't apply, since they'll be a pretty elastic bunch no matter what the price is.

No, no HDMI on the 360.
But then, the 360 is largely targetted at running at 720p anyway, which is what the vast majority of HDTV sets can actually display. (there are very few that will do 1080p, and will probably remain so, because
broadcast 1080p is a filthy lie).
And since it has no HD movie player as standard (Microsoft figuring that the market for it did not justify the cost or delay), it doesn't need to support HDCP either.

In makes plenty of sense in Bizarro world, maybe. Take a closer look at the graph to see people demanding more PS3's at higher prices. By that graph, the price should be a million dollars each. Then everyone would buy one!
