Create and run your own Government...

I dunno if many of you know of this place or not, but considering these days with all the whining in the world and bs from wannabe political know-it-alls, I figured I'd try a bit of an experiment here. :)

It's called Jennifer Government: NationStates.

Taken from the site:
NationStates is a free nation simulation game. Build a nation and run it according to your own warped political ideals. Create a Utopian paradise for society's less fortunate or a totalitarian corporate police state. Care for your people or deliberately oppress them. Join the United Nations or remain a rogue state. It's really up to you.

Let's see how far some of your all either sensible or trumped-up bs fantasy ideas of how the world should run actually play out in a real government simulation.

I'd like to see which way your governments bend toward and find out if you're prospering or ended up eating a shit sandwich watching your ideals fail.

Have fun...also as if it wasn't obvious I 'STUCK' this topic so it'll be easier to follow. Registration to that game online is totally free.

Crap... I forgot to edit the quote and the ending, it's a cut and paste job from a site I mod.

Anyway. The basics are all there, and it's pretty interesting.

Have a very nice day.

The Confederacy of Aquarian Republics

Fragile

Superb

Location: The East Pacific Regional Influence: Minnow

The Confederacy of Aquarian Republics is a tiny, environmentally stunning nation, notable for its devotion to social welfare. Its compassionate, intelligent population of 5 million love a good election, and the government gives them plenty of them. Universities tend to be full of students debating the merits of various civil and political rights, while businesses are tightly regulated and the wealthy viewed with suspicion.

The enormous, socially-minded government is mainly concerned with Social Welfare, although Healthcare and Education are on the agenda. The average income tax rate is 37%, but much higher for the wealthy. A very small private sector is dominated by the Retail industry.

Crime is well under control. Aquarian Republics's national animal is the dove, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the amethyst.

I used to play it quite often last year. It was interesting to deliberate over what legislations to pass for the various issues. It became extremely tedious when the same issues started to repeatedly crop up over and over so I moved on to other things.

GateWars is the browser based game that currently holds my attention.

I used to have a nation on there, The Republic of Bangaalas, which I had kept up with for about a year. I think it reached a population level of 4 billlion or something.

Sadly, I never logged into it much. I waited too long once, and it got deleted. Not interested in starting another.

Long ago some people with too much time on their hands made a bunch of XL sopreadsheet programs for the game. You could plug in the size of your nation and get numbers for anything you wanted, all you had to do was put in names for things.

I read the book. Seem to remember it being alright.

Has the game changed at all in the past year or so? I played it for a bit, but two things annoyed me. The first was the US-centricity. An example of this was that national health was an ultra-radical option. Along with that is a sort of right wing thought. If you made modern England on that game, it would probably tell you that the economy was kaput due to excessive spending or something.

The second annoyance was that I kept getting the same questions come up. Was annoying.

They have recently introduced a new nation influence rating and also have made region invasions legal - I don't know the specifics because I don't get involved with that.

The Imperium of Battlecrabs
"Aggression & Expansion: the watchword of the destroyer "

UN Category: Corporate Police State
Civil Rights: Rare
Economy: Frightening
Political Freedoms: Outlawed
Location: Europe

Regional Influence: Minnow

The Imperium of Battlecrabs is a massive, economically powerful nation, renowned for its compulsory military service. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 7.313 billion are ruled with an iron fist by the corrupt, dictatorship government, which oppresses anyone who isn't on the board of a Fortune 500 company. Large corporations tend to be above the law, and use their financial clout to gain ever-increasing government benefits at the expense of the poor and unemployed.

The small, corrupt, moralistic, pro-business government concentrates mainly on Defence, although Law & Order and Commerce are secondary priorities. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 20%. A powerhouse of a private sector is dominated by the Automobile Manufacturing industry.

Convicted felons are forced into slavery for their crimes, the adult unemployment rate nears 100% as all available jobs have been filled by young children, society and government have been organized according to a feudal hierarchy, and Battlecrabs's army is full of two-metre tall super-soldiers. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force. Battlecrabs's national animal is the Balrog, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the Doom-Mark.

Battlecrabs is ranked 2nd in the region and 52nd in the world for Largest Defense Forces (per capita).

The Empire of Decapito is a massive, safe nation, renowned for its barren, inhospitable landscape. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 5.986 billion are ruled with an iron fist by the corrupt, dictatorship government, which oppresses anyone who isn't on the board of a Fortune 500 company. Large corporations tend to be above the law, and use their financial clout to gain ever-increasing government benefits at the expense of the poor and unemployed.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt, moralistic government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Defence, and Commerce. The average income tax rate is 100%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Automobile Manufacturing industry, followed by Uranium Mining and Arms Manufacturing.

The dung beetle is believed to be extinct, skateboarding is punishable by heavy fines, a crusade against barbaric religious practices has begun, and the police have reaffirmed their tough stance on drugs. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force. Decapito's national animal is the dung beetle, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the uranium doubloon.

Decapito is ranked 2nd in the region and 429th in the world for Largest Defense Forces (per capita).

I kinda lost interest in this a while ago, but whatever.
The People's Republic of Scillantos is a large, socially progressive nation, notable for its strong anti-business politics. Its compassionate, cynical population of 36 million are ruled with an iron fist by the socialist government, which grants its people the freedom to do whatever they like so long as it doesn't involve getting richer than anybody else or challenging the government.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt, liberal, socially-minded government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Education, Defence, and the Environment. The average income tax rate is 71%, and even higher for the wealthy. The private sector is almost wholly made up of enterprising fourteen-year-old boys selling lemonade on the sidewalk, although the government is looking at stamping this out.

All industry is owned and run by the government, all recreational drugs are legal, it is illegal for police officers to carry out searches due to strict privacy laws, and citizens can be frequently spotted going about their business stark naked. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is well under control. Scillantos's national animal is the velociraptor, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the scill.

Scillantos is ranked 340th in the region and 39,071st in the world for Largest Defense Forces (per capita).

Just started
The Empire of MyWillRules is a tiny, pleasant nation, notable for its compulsory military service. Its hard-nosed, cynical population of 5 million are kept under strict control by the oppressive government, which measures its success by the nation's GDP and refers to individual citizens as "human resources."

The medium-sized, corrupt, moralistic government devotes most of its attentions to Law & Order, with areas such as Social Welfare and Commerce receiving almost no funds by comparison. The average income tax rate is 16%, but much higher for the wealthy. A substantial private sector is led by the Gambling industry, followed by Furniture Restoration and Cheese Exports.

Crime -- especially youth-related -- is relatively low, thanks to a well-funded police force. MyWillRules's national animal is the bear and its currency is the will credit.
A corrupt and moralistic government?
I feel the catbert in me by refering to citizens as 'human resources'. :D

Some aspects of it are confusing. For example, I had three industries when I started, and the next day, I had only trout fishing, and I didn't do anything even remotely related to modifying the economy.

Does stuff change randomly?
