Is there a way to save the videos from youtube?

I suppose if you knew html you could check the source code for the video filename, set up your browser to save that filetype instead of running it, and enter the filename into the URL bar. But there's probably an easier way.

With firefox you can use plugins to grab the video files.

Here's a tutorial to download and then convert the vids.

You can use a browser-based app to rip the videos without every installing anything.

Ok, emphasize without Google video format/PSP format/Whatever...

I just want some regular video format, not some *.gvp format that I can't run.

Works for both google video and you tube. I haven't tried the AVI portion yet, but the flash video (FLV) works fine. You can play it in VLC, although its a pain in the ass if you want to skip to certain parts. Theres all kinds of convertors out there if you look hard enough on goggle.
