Not a great example, but Tripod.lycos.com seems to offer some decent subscription options with domain-named sites, starting at $9/month and 10Gb bandwitdh (20Gb at $12). I've been thinking of upgrading mine to that level in the fall or once I get back into the swing of photoshopping and writing more than bulding and painting minatures.

No idea about better hosts, though, but it's a start.

I've had good experiences with Dreamhost in the past. I world reccommend them to you.

I've never heard any complaints from people who use phpwebhosting.com as their webhost. I used them for approximately 8 months, and I'd recommend them because everything worked as they advertise.
