Ok, today I got a Sound Blaster Audigy SE and put into my computer. Ever since I've been having troubles with it and the modem. If I'm online and not using any sound intensive programs(iTunes, DVDPlayer, Diablo II), or if I'm offline and running those, I'm fine.

But if I get online and then start playing a song on iTunes I get thrown offline. Then my speakers stop transmitting sound from itunes. The song is still playing, and if I hit puase and then play it starts playing again. If I try to get back online it'll connect and then I get thrown off. If I continue trying to run both my computer will reset.

I ran it through Einy in the chat and he said it sounded like a IRQ conflict and to post in here to ask about fixing it.

Note: I have already moved both the modem and the sound card to different ports and checked to make sure they were in well.

Oh boy. IRQ conflict is one possibility. Another is that both cards are sharing the same memory resources. If you're running XP (and IIRC, this is the same for all Windows versions), go to Start->Programs->Accessories->System Tools->System Information. In this program, under the Hardware Resources section, looks at the Conflicts/Sharing report. You might want to post it here. It will tell you what memory, I/Os and IRQs are being shared or are conflicting.

And you may end up having to move the cards to different slots. If you have your motherboard manual, it should tell what devices are shared with what slot (for instance, one of my 2nd PCI slot shares with one of my onboard ethernet controllers). Also, disabling any unused COM ports might free IRQs, and allow Windows to shuffle things around.

Modem #2??? Do you have two modems, or is this an artifact of changing slots? You shouldn't be having any hardware conflicts between the two cards, base off of the System Info conflict report (although I'd disable that 1394 controller if you're not using firewire).

When you installed the Audigy drivers, did you install only the drivers, or did you install all the other creative crap that comes with it? Have you tried uninstalling the drivers for both cards, doing a Safe Mode boot and using Driver Cleaner Pro to remove the remenants, and reinstalling the drivers?

I only installed the drivers at first, then tried installing some the other crap to see if that would smooth something out.

Edit, also, it does seem to think that there are two of the same modems in it, one at the old slot, one at the new.

Well something new happened, my computer frozen and then a blue screen popped up saying that windows was shutting down to protect my computer, and that if I recently installed any new hardware to make sure it was properly installed. It then said that if the problem persists I should check for any updates. Windows Update didn't come up with anything so I'll check Audigy's website and folder to see if there is an autoupdate or something.

Ok, go to control panel->administrative tools->event viewer.

In the event viewer, click on System, and look through the system log for errors since you've installed your sound card. Post those errors here. That BSOD should have generated something we can look up (hopefully).

Note: I uninstalled the driver(as well as all the other Creative crap), moved the card, and then reinstalled them to no effect.

Now for that

Error code 10000012, parameter1 00000002, parameter2 8001003b, parameter3 00000000, parameter4 00000000.

There are a lot of those.

I did a search on Google and Microsoft, I got back basically nothing. The only thing I saw a couple of different forum posting with people getting the same error with SBs and Conexant modems. Like that's helpful...

Alright, checking their forums apparently Creative just hates dial up modems, and blames it on the modem drivers even though this problem occurs with several differen companies. So fuck them. I'm snapping that piece of shit in half(and by that I mean return it) and getting a different companies sound card that is 5.1 compatible.

I don't like Creative Labs, and their drivers have a history of badness, but it might just be the modem drivers - just because they're different companies is meaningless. They might be based on a family of chips with some common driver that is poorly written.

There's also the possibility that if he downloaded the Audigy drivers online and installed, they are not the correct ones. I have no idea if the Audigy series suffers from teh same problem as the SB Live! 5.1 (Fuck you very much, Creative Labs!) does, where they have dozens of different models sold with the same label. So you need to check the actual fucking model number from the card itself and then look up teh right drivers from Driverguide or someplace else if you've lost the driver CD that came with the card.

Ugh, I remember using an SB live - as Edi says, you had to download the drivers for your MODEL NUMBER, and there were piles of mutually-incompatible models. What a crock of shit that was.

The only Creative hardware I've never had a problem with is the X-Fi, and its drivers are still larger than necessary. And I think you still have to play model number driver game with them (because each model has its own entry on the driver search page).
