DS owners, sell me a DS

I'm bored at the moment, and I've got too much money for my own good. The DS Lite comes out in AU on the first. I want one, but in a must-have-gadget way: I haven't been able to tell from reviews etc if there are any games I'd like.

There are many DS owners here. I owned a DS when they came out originally, but got sick of the ten games and the 'lolz Hunters will be out REAL SOON' thing. What are the great games? What's the motive? :)

Motive:

1) Meteos

2) Mario Kart

3) Princess Peach DS

soon to be reasons:

4) Big Brain Academy

5) Star Fox DS

Hunters. :P

I second Mario Kart, and also recommend Advance Wars if you like turn strategy.

A columns game? lol.

Isn't PP:DS ridiculously easy?

Is Mario Kart any good single player? I don't know anybody with a DS.

How 'soon' are those games? I mean, Metroid was 'soon' for a year.

Well, I'm a sad, lonely man, and I enjoyed Mario Kart.

Seeing as Big Brain and Star Fox were announced at E3, probably the end of the year.

Can't it play GBA carts, too? If you don't have a GBA already, that would be a selling point.

Reasons to get a DS :
-------------------------

1 Advance Wars : Dual Strike

2 Advance Wars : Dual Strike

3 Advance Wars : Dual Strike

4 Advance Wars : Dual Strike

5 It also plays the GBA Advance Wars games

6 : Some of those other B-list games mentioned above

:)

It looks great but I don't like it as much as I liked the GBA version. They really needed to keep the simple powerslide boost instead of going with the "turn-and-smoke-and-turn-and...crash ?" mechanic from MK64.

Reason to get a DS:

Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow
The only castleroid in existence that can rival the awesomeness of Symphony of the Night.

Also it plays GBA games so you can catch up on the castleroids you might have missed apart from SotN.

1. Advance Wars
2. Mario Kart
3. Animal Crossing
4. Metroid Prime Hunters
5. Riviera: The Promised Land (GBA)
6. Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow

I've played an emulated SNES version of Rondo of Blood, and it was indeed very nice; that was the one with the two-headed panther as an early boss, wasn't it?

I have played Ouendan. I have but two things to say about it:
If I ever get a DS, that will most likely be the reason. I will not buy a DS, I think, until I have saved up both the fee of the DS and the $70 to get a copy in Chinatown.

Also, the world would be vastly, nay, infinitely improved if helpful Japanese cheerleaders showed up and helped out whenever someone shouted out "OUENDAN!" with true need. They'd be like superheroes. Who cheer.

well the SNES version is a kind of mash version of Dracula X and original Stuff: iirc in japan, the relase name was Dracula xx

just try to grab the PC-E version, Vampire Kiss (european title) is nice, but it just doesn't compare to the NEC version (or maybe spilling around 80€ for a game make you want to believe that this one is better);)

Another game which is must have for the DS in second hand are:
- Wario Ware Touched!
- Trauma Center: Under the Knife

Edit: typo/grammar

MK:DS is WiFi enabled, so you can play online! You can also play on a few sample tracks online without purchasing the game.

WiFi's nice if you can get it to work - it keeps giving me a 52000 error message ("router won't assign IP") despite double-checking every setting :(
3:Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (don't apply if you have the Gyakuten Saiban on GBA: same game)
Isn't a courtroom simulator terminally boring ? Once you crack the ase, doesn't the replay value plummet to zero ?

It's incredibly easy with two DS's in the same room, though. Just not so much with the routers.

Are you using WPA? The DS only supports non-encrypted links and WEP, unfortunately. I've heard the best solution is simply to use the WiFi USB adapter for yoru DS.

Nah. I tried disabling all encryption and security, but no dice. The DS immediately recognises the router, but when it's trying to autoconfigure it throws up the error. Same thing happens when I try to set it up manually.

It doesn't help I've got an out-of-production Siemens router - there's very little support for it.

Maybe I'll just get the adaptor, but I'd hoped to use the DS out-of-the-box and if the router won't play nice with the DS I fear for the Wii :(

EDIT : I just tried it again - I've recently had to reinstall the router's firmware after a lightning mishap - and now it's giving me a 53100, "this Access Point not compatible with Nintendo WiFi". Whoop-de-fekkin-do

On the subject of WiFi; my DS has worked automatically with every router I've tried it with, no problem..there's a few rare routers that have problems, though if you use Google, sometimes you can use specific settings on those routers and they'll work.

Now for games.

Offline games: Meteos, Advance Wars, WarioWare, Mario 64, New Super Mario Bros, Mario & Luigi 2: Partner's in Time (awesome RPG), Trauma Center, Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow, Brain Training, Pheonix Wright, etc, are out right now, and you should buy them.

Zelda: Phantom Hourglass and a new Kirby game are coming.

Online games:

Mario Kart DS is online.

Metroid Prime Hunters is online

Animal Crossing is online.

Tetris DS is online.

Tony Hawk's American Skateland is online.

Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam will be online..

Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles will be online.

Final Fantasy III will be online.

Mario Hoops 3-on-3 Basketball is developed by Square Enix, and will be online.

Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin is online.

Star Fox DS will be online.

Diddy Kong Racing 2 is being developed by Rare and will be online.

Mario vs Donkey Kong 2 will allow you to swap maps online.

Except, of course, actually released anywhere except Japan.

It has an extra case at the end as well.

Gyakuten Saiban 2 is being translated and ported later this year as well. Presumably the rest will follow.

well i own Gyakuten Saiban 3, but i still didn't have the time to put myself in it and plays with the kanji dictionnary next to the GBA,
I'm still on Blue Breaker on PC FX for the 1turn=1hour of translation...

Playing text heavy non-localised games just seems too much like work to me. For games like Gyakuten Saiban especially, which is heavily dependent on reading and remembering what's said you really need to be able to read the text with reasonable fluency and without stopping to look things up.

I'd rather play games, not sit and grind at them. Life's too fucking short.

Well yes, that's Dracula X (Dracula XX in Japan and Vampire's Kiss in Europe) for the SNES, which is a watered down version of Rondo. Really watered down. However, I do prefer the SNES verions of the music, even though the sound quality isn't quite as good as Rondo's CD quality tracks.
