Emulator

I can't find one for the N64. The only one I've found has been Project64, and I can't seem to find a Rom of The Legond of Zelda: Majora's Mask. That's all I want to play on it. I physically own the system and the game, but I lack the will to hook it up(IE: I'm too lazy) So I'm looking for an emulator of it. Anyone want to help me?

Stop being so damn lazy and hook it up.

And unplug my PS2? NEVAH! Besides I've got a movie running right now, and it will take several boot attempts just to get the damned thing working. I bought the damned system the day it came out, so it's older than dirt, and has horrible bootup problems.

Oh, come on. It's nto that much work. And for the record, I got my N64 close to launch date (within a few months), and it still works no problem. Matter of fact, my brother still plays F-Zero X on it.

Yes, well I've been trying for 5 minutes now(I acutally got off my lazy ass because I want to play the game that bad) and I haven't gotten it to bootup. I'm stuck, and I want an emulator. :P I think the fact that I've dropped the system multiple times, and that it was moved from Florida to North Carolina, back to Florida then backto North Carolina has done some damage as well.

Honestly, you're better off just using the damn N64. Consider this an opportunity to become more intimately familiar with the cables connecting things together, and the quick manipulation thereof. Emulation would be a greater headache.

I'm quite familear with the cables and the pain in the ass it is, as well as the pain in the ass an emulation is. I'm currently running an emulation for the SNES, and I understand the horrible hell it is to run an emulation, but I'd rather that then sitting here trying to bootup this system. Approaching the 10 minute mark of attempting to bootup the damned machine.

Project 64 works fine for me. Fuck knows where to get roms these days, though - I'd try emule.

Just keep at it, and you'll get it eventually. If my brother can get the damn Atari and NES to work (goodness knows how much crap we've thrown at the poor things through the decades) then something teetering on a decade should be a cinch. If all else fails, just bash the thing - you'll be surprised how often a good smack can get a rude Nintendo in order.

And, as stated, you're really better off just using the console itself - we've pretty much hit the edge of emulation compatability and whatnot, I think, and there's simply no good substitute for the original 64 controller.

Go out and buy one of those multi-AV switchboxes and just hook up the damn system.

Project64 is the best working N64 emulator.

As for roms? Rip it yourself off your cartridge. Downloading roms off the internet is illegal, regardless of whether you own a copy of it. Hook up the system. Besides, can you imagine playing Zelda with a keyboard? :x

If you think that a SNES emulator is painful, I laugh at you. SNES emulation is relatively simple. But when you start emulating the N64, then polygons and an overabundance of buttons and weird screen resolutions and custom vertex shaders and a nightmarish assload of other issues come into play. And then there are the incompatibilities. Run for your life!

Just hook up the N64. I have to deal with a cranky old NES that often takes over 10 cartridge-wiggling restarts before it turns on properly, and if I can deal with that crap then surely you can deal with "several boot attempts".

ZSNES and Snes9x are more or less perfect SNES emulators, aren't they?

Seeing as how the damned thing isn't working, just give me a freaking emulator, I'll deal with the 3-D graphics problems. My post about it rattling was in reference to the system, which has a piece of something in there rattling when I shake it, which I'd bet is a piece of a chip of some sort. Just don't have the time to open it up right now.

GBA emulation is the simplest I've found; I rip my own GBA roms legally and run them in there, then load an app on my DS and connect it wirelessly to my PC as a wireless controller, and use my DS to play my GBA games on the PC screen in 800x600 with 4x AA and filters applied, and I can take screenshots and record video. It's beautiful :D

Project 64 is THE best N64 emulator. You won't find a better one. And it is illegal to download roms, don't ask for them here.
And I can tell you right now you won't enjoy Zelda with a keyboard.

ZSNES comes close but it's not at 100% compatibility yet, thanks to some of the game carts having their own extra processors embedded. They're aparently a bitch to emulate.

But for practical purposes, SNES emulation is about as close to the real thing as you want it to be.

N64 emulation, however, is grinding along very slowly. Many games are more-or-less playable, some are even nearly perfectly emulated, but the vast majority are still broken or buggy as hell.
And I can tell you right now you won't enjoy Zelda with a keyboard.
It *might* be playable with a gamepad, but it won't be much fun.

Not to mention that those SNES emulators have excellent working speedup, savestate and other functionality not available on the actual box. Console RPGs are so much more fun when you don't have to depend on the retarded save point concept.

But far easier. I played the NES Zelda for months as a kid - you can finish it in a few hours on PC. I didn't even have any idea what I was doing! :)

Playing oldies on a PC bleeds the fun out of them for me. It's nothing rational, but I've always found console games more compelling when I'm holding the original controllor and can't use savestates.

I can't stand the save point concept so I prefer emulation. With save points, if you want to try another tactic or try to get the unique item off the boss (think FF series here) you usualy have to waste at least 5 min to attempt the fight again (walking + intro dialogue to the fight).

Its actualy such an annoyance for me that when I got FF7 (PC) in a bundle as a gift once, I quickly replaced it with a PSX emulated version. The added functionality of save states and better graphics (the PC version's graphic card support, especialy with newer graphics cards, is horrible, not to mention that it doesn't offer stuff like antialiasing etc. that modern emulators support).

I should get a gamepad for when the nostalgia hits me next time tho.

The nice thing about PSX emulation is that you can just put the Playstation game in the PC and play it that way.
