What's Up With My Wireless Internet?

I have wireless internet access on my laptop when I come in range of a network that I have access to, and it worked until yesterday.

What happens is that I get the bar and listing that says that I'm connected, and that the connection is good, but when I try to use a web browser, it doesn't bring up any websites (just gives me the 'Can not be found' message).

Does anybody have any idea what's up? I didn't do any major software changes recently, so I have no idea why my wireless internet isn't working.

The times I've seen something like that is when the laptop is had a virus or somesuch. It'll get an Ip address, say it's got full connection, but no traffic gets through.

My sister's laptop does that. Damned if I know why.

That happens when your IP settings are out of whack. You either have a static IP and the bar has DHCP enabled or vice versa. Also you may have a static IP assigned that someone else is using.

I'm thinking that it may have just been a problem with my home network and the library network I tried to connect to. I'm at the Uni right now, and I've been able to get perfect internet access on their network.

That, at least, is a relief. Now I just need to figure out what the hell's wrong with my home wireless network.

Silly question maybe, but have you rebooted the router?

Sometimes your router will become disconnected from the internet service provider. Reboot it by yanking the power cable and reinserting it and it will reestablish the connection.

Especially useful if you don't have any other computers on the same network, so can't check if it's really working.

I'll give that a shot on the Home PC. It's the one that runs the Wireless.
