Ubuntu 6.06 "Dapper Drake" Released

I don't know if anyone else has upgraded or switched to this yet, but I've just finished the upgrade from 5.10 with no hassle, though I've yet to see the real difference bar some extra shine and so forth. With the numerous delays to Vista, it's given more time to produce a more likeable OS here, even if I can't think of many ways off the top-of-my-head to make it better right now.

Anything of note from other users I should look into?

Is there an easy way to upgrade, or should I just download the ISO and go like that?

Do you know if it still has the same graphics card incompatability as the last release of Ubuntu?

Good point. I haven't looked at using it yet, but I assume since the devs were putting it in as a base application, that I need not tinker around much with it. You got it up and running?

Welp, I'm posting on my newly-minted DD box right now, and it looks like everything's copasetic. I'll probably upgrade my BB laptop later today.

Edit some hours later: I had to flatten and reinstall my IRC server for some reason. So far, though, so good.

I've just upgraded continuously since Flight 3- probably good idea to wipe it though, as I've been experiencing minor glitches (tweaked ACPI scripts which broke on version upgrades). It should upgrade cleanly if you change the APT repos though.

XGL is up and running, but I don't use it due to the performance and power usage hit (Laptop w/ ATi graphics, which sucks)

I clean-installed Dapper Drake and it seems to be working nicely, but I still can't get NetworkManager to play nice, unfortunately. No Xgl here either (on a laptop with integrated SiS graphics). Edgy Eft might enable it by default.

Unlikely, as XGL has certain issues- eg, can't run OpenGL apps accelerated while it's active. AiGLX will be in some version of Xorg though.

I'm doing an upgrade. Seems to be going painlessly, it's even warning me about config files that it wants to overwrite.

Ok done, everything seems to be intact, except that xmms and totem seem to have lost contact with the sound server, xine seems to work though. Obviously this is going to need some tweaking.

Edgy Eft's later versions may have it ironed out, but it won't be a default because a lot of the drivers for the hardware are proprietary and not GPL.

And one big difference is a graphical installer screen, though I find one of the main benefits of Ubuntu has always been the easy, Debian-esque text installer system. Still, at least it's a choice.

Holy shit, the eject button works now. That's a good start.

Always has with me. Did you not get Automatix?

Then I suggest getting it, mon amis.

The only fault I can find here now is eagle-usb not starting my ADSL up at boot, which is a niggle, but not life threatening.
