I just bought one from Target along with Brain Age and NSMB. It's pretty sweet.

I really like Nintendo, I do, but this habit of releasing drastically improved versions of their handhelds is starting to bother me. Why couldn't they have made the DS sleeker to begin with ? Why couldn't they add a brighter LCD in '05 ?

That said - holy fuck, that's one sexy machine

Well, maybe they're perfectionists. Maybe they have some sort of code of honor among Nintendo engineers that doesn't let them stop working on a handheld until they've reached an acceptable level of perfection.

Or maybe they're double-dipping the people who must every new thing.

Who knows the darkness that lurks in the heart of Nintendo?

Why didn't Apple make the ipod nano in 2001? .
Technology Improves in time, and miniaturizations lets us improve somethings designe once we have smaller components and the ability to shrink the device as well as improved familiarity with the components as well as improved versions of them  :P

Suuure, there's been loads of technological advancements between June 2005 and March 2006. And backlit screens ? Clamshell design ? Those didn't even exist before 2001.

Didn't the DS launch in November 2004?

It did ?

Statement retracted, then. I thought there was just nine months between the versions.

I have one on preorder at GameStop, but I thought they only came in Polar White?

I crave the DS Lite.

Can't decide on white or black though. Only 20 days to choose, too!

You can import the blue one from Lik Sang.

Am I the only one who doesn't give a shit about this? It's just the same DS with a new look and some new features. I didn't want one in '04, and I don't want one now. If I already had a DS, I certainly wouldn't consider buying something I already had just because of a sleek new look.

I tried a display one at Walmart the other day, and I don't know, but I find the old version more comfortable in my hands... though the brighter backlight is nice.

Maybe when it hits a price drop, if my old DS's touch screen isn't quite up to perfection.
