Headphone Self Repair

The left channel in my Sennheiser 457 decided to die. I love the headphones to death, but this isn't the first time this has happened. It's still under warrantee and I got them fixed with zero hassle last time, but I'd rather not wait a week.

The problem seems simple enough: the wire seems to have been distended/pulled out. When I push it in at the right angle, it works again. Does anyone know a decent way to repair this without sending it back? My google-fu is weak and could not locate a guide.

My Sony MDR-V6 had a similar problem, only the wire had become pinched. I was fortunate in that there was enough slack in the wire that I was able to cut it at the break, then re-solder the end to the contacts on the speaker.

My guess is that anything you do to fix it will probably void the warranty. I recommend sending it in.

*whisper*HD650... it's what you want*whisper*

Any any rate, where have you looked for guides? Have you tried Headwize? Head-fi? The HD457 seems similar to the HD497 in design as well.

But Uraniun235 has a point - it's really better to send them back; that way your warranty will stay nice and warm.
