Computer not starting up

Right, my computer can't finish starting up, I've got Windows 2000 Professional and it gets about 3/4ths of the way through the start-up progress bar and then just stops.

Checking the event log I find this, in sequential order:

"The System Event Notification service depends on the COM+ Event System service which failed to start because of the following error:
No attempts to start the service have been made since the last boot."

"The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:
Avg7Core
Avg7RsNT
Avg7RsW "

"The Remote Access Connection Manager service depends on the Telephony service which failed to start because of the following error:
No attempts to start the service have been made since the last boot. "

"The server {1BE1F766-5536-11D1-B726-00C04FB926AF} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout. "

and again

"The Remote Access Connection Manager service depends on the Telephony service which failed to start because of the following error:
No attempts to start the service have been made since the last boot. "

Anyone have an idea what the hell's wrong with my computer?

EDIT: It works in Safe Mode, and Safe Mode with networking though it takes forever to boot, and that's how I'm posting now.

Have you made any changes lately?

No, nothing. There was one problem where I put a USB stick in and it said it needed to install new hardware, but when I did nothing changed. But aside from that jack diddly squat.

I had a similar problem a little more then two years ago. I finally broke down and called tech support. IIRC, something in the registry got changed or fucked up.

If this is true anyone know how I can find out what is messed up?

First thing, uninstall AVG; it's the most obvious major error. Then run services.msc and see what Telephony is set to; try disabling it if it's not already. It generally only handles Remote Access stuff, so it's not necessary.

Right, that did it. Huzzah!

Just having some minor problems with AVG now, but I think that does it.

Telephony also handles dial-up access, so its not COMPLETELY useless. ;)
