Everytime I try to see a streaming video on the net using firefox it tells me to download a plug in that it can never find. What should I do?

Reinstall media player. If it still doesn't work you will have to get a bit more creative, but reinstalling the media player should be your first option.

I too have the same problem, and I reinstalled the most recent version of windows media and the problem persists.

Ugh, had the same thing once actualy, so its down path B. Can't remember how to fix it unfortunatly, I think it involves a bit of registry editing. Something about something outdated causing ye old 6.4 media player to assert dominance. Sorry for not being able to be more helpful but a bit of googling should find you the answer.

You need to check your MIME types.
Windows Explorer -> Tools -> Folder Options -> File Types (tab)
Theres no setting in Firefox to edit, seeing as it reads your MIME data from windows.
