Battle Fleet Gothic

I've been pondering which GW game might be best suited to forum play, other than Inquisitor, and I realized Gothic might be fun to play. With the aid of some basic jpgs we could play normally online, would anyone be up for that?

We could do a campaign or something.

That could be very fun. The rulebook, and some extra goodies, are even published free online.
Games workshop. Free. Does not compute...
WTF. More?

Here's a spiffy automatic dice roller that could come in handy.
dice on the intarweb!

I guess we could make things work by creating a giant pile of ship jpegs and a gridsquare png (so the white could be set to transparent and then have the gridsquares be overlayed over the battle for measuring distances).

It's not bad. It can be fun, but can also be very annoying.

Remind me to be a different species from Thirdfain so I don't get caught in his webs of deceit.

This is fuckin' Battlefleet Gothic, not some nancy-pansy lameass game of chit-chat and "diplomacy," or "extreme gayness" as I like to call it. There will be no deceit webs, just the silent thunder of cannon in space and the soundless screams of decompressing bodies.

Booyah.

Riiiiight.

Aw well. I suppose I could field the Duskguard Chapter if I joined. Redemption in death!

I'd be interested in this for sure. I could lend a hand creating some ship jpegs too.

Sounds like there's a lot of players already, but if you need more, I might be interested. I'd have to read up on the rules, but with Medusa V in full swing I'll often be relatively busy playing 40k games.

Which brings up another idea - you guys could log these battles into Medusa V too. :D

sounds fun, the Pirate/Privateer Fleets of Isolde the Doomed shall ready themselves.

I'll play, just drop a PM whenever, I have an ok handle on the rules, and have some idea of what I am doing.

I'll give it a try. My imperial fleet desperately needs a win.

Apparently, the blokes down at Games Workshop didn't feel like playing with a calculator while writing the 'Scale' portion of the BFG Rules.
Rulebook wrote:First of all – space is big! Very, very big. Take
your conception of a long way (ie, down to the
shops when it’s raining hard) and multiply it by a
million, then by another million… and then by
another million and you’re still not even close to
how far apart things are in space.
Now, if we take 'your conception of a long way'--let's call it, say, 10 kilometers--and multiply that by a million million millions.

That should give us something a bit more than a million light years.

Now, while if this were "Intergalactic Wars 4", or "In the grim darkness of intergalactic space, there is only background radation... and WAR!", that might be reasonable. However, I'm thinking they multiplied by one too many millions there. Just a feeling...

and since that warp storm near medusa five is providing lots of power for my red solar sails....

Found the reference sheet and fleet sheet, plus some cutouts of squadrons and torpedos that might be moderately useful to us.

So, how are we going to go about making representations of minis and a board-thing?

I'm interested in playing, pretty please, since it's all free.
