I've got a new Max Media Dock for the Nintendo DS today, and here's what the instructions say to use it on the computer.

Putting Media on your Media Dock

Disconnect your MAX Media Dock from your Nintendo DS.

Connect the MAX Media Dock to your PC using the supplied Mini USB to USB cable.

Windows XP automatically recognizes the Compact Flash as a 'Removable Mass Storage Device' and assigns it a drive letter.

Once you have connected your MAX Media Drive to your PC, use Windows Explorer or My Computer to add content to its Compact Flas Card.

Indeed, my computer does recognize the Media Drive automatically. It installed the drivers no problem and says the device is operating just fine. But it never popped up in My Computer as it's own drive. I've unplugged it and put it back in- it registers it getting plugged in and says it's enabled, but it doesn't show up in My Computer. How do I get access to my USB Drive so I can put stuff on it?

Right Click "My Computer" and click "manage".

Select "Disk Management" and look for you usb device in the list, you should be able to find it by looking for a disk with the same capacity.

Windows doesnt handle usb disks to well at times and could be messing up with the drive letter allocation.

You should be able to right click the drive, select "Change drive letter and path" and give it a drive letter. Then it should appear in "My Computer".

...Well... now the computer just doesn't recognize when I plug it into the USB port at all. I plug it in and no popup verifying it's plugged in. On any of the USB slots on the computer. It's like the computer just decided to not recognize it at all or something. What the bloody hell is going on with this infernal contraption?

Try shutting down the PC and unplugging it from electricity for 30-40secs (this means also pulling out the battery if it is a laptop), sometimes I have found that the USB can go a little haywire at times and not detect new devices, and this can sometimes resolve the issue.

If it starts detecting it then try what my first post stated.

No dice.

Had a similar problem that went away when I did a reinstall. However that might be a bit drastic. Maybe a quicker way, but also somewhat expensive, is to buy a USB expansion card since this type of problems are usualy associated with a specific USB bus, while the card would naturaly have it's own. It shouldn't be too expensive (10$ or so). I used to use it as a solution for a while (I had an extra card lying around from before).

I'm guessing that that USB port does work fine for any other USB device?

Planning on doing a reinstall on this computer. I was just hoping I could use this to save on how many CD-Rs I had to burn.

Well, the modem is functioning. I don't want to disconnect it in case it won't register on getting plugged back in, obviously. I don't have any other USB devices at this house at the moment. I can test it later today.

I plugged the device into MY computer at home, and it's not showing up at all either. WTF.

Does it do whatever it's supposed to do for the DS?

I believe to do that he has to actually load something on it from his computer.

I think the problem is with the cord itself- it's probably busted. I will email the company and have them send me a replacement cord.
