My new notebook just came in today and I've encountered a strange problem. It says it found my wireless network and is connected, however I cannot actually access the net. It works fine hile on LAN connection to my router, just not over the wireless. Any idea what this could be, I'm hoping it is just me being a dumbass and not enabling something or other.

Sometimes the wireless router can block traffic over the wireless connection. Check any firewall settings on the router.

Same goes for any firewall software on your laptop. Try disabling them temporarily, including Windows Firewall, and if it starts working then that is the issue.

Check the manual or internet help pages for your particular model router, they should tell you how to do it. Make sure that the router isn't MAC address tied to the MacBook, it shouldn't be though, but the manual should explain it.

If you can connect with the MacBook then it is likely the PC notebook itself. Couple of things can be happening. Check the installed software firewalls as I explained in my previous post.

Some virii can also allow you to get an ip address and seem to be connected over the wireless but not have any actual traffic go through, so a virus scan would also be advisable.
